This one started really well but went completely downhill once the writer decided to introduce Rosie's paranoia of a family. And the worst thing is that she allowed her heroine to become totally inconsistent to herself and her principles. She became a vulnerable, meek creature, manipulated by that thing she called ''mother''. It was beyond cringe-worthy, it was painful...I kept reading to see whether Rosie would have the guts to utter a proper punch line to her mother and put her in her place, but it didn't happen...

I began to doubt whether she was worthy of Stephen, and most of all, whether she had the will to grasp her life into her hands. Plus, the Henry Carr sub-plot was highly implausible. It seemed to exist just for the sake of added - and utterly failing- melodrama.

Not even close to the first book. It was as if it had been written by a different writer.

Not finished. Too many Christmas books, it dragged and I always love, love Jenny Colgan. Bummer.

Story of love lost and then found again. Set in England, Rosie Hopkins is prepping for a white Christmas. She is settling in with Stephen, and trying to navigate a rocky relationship with his mother. Then, tragedy strikes the small town, and children are injured.Meanwhile, in a nursing home, a new man, James Boyd, has come to live. His son brings him, and James is suffering from dementia. But, then he sees Lillian Hopklns, and instantly feels a connection. Lillian is reminded of her old love, Henry, who died in the war.Rosie and Stephen have a rough patch, and Rosie is resigned to believe that they will never marry. Christmas brings a pleasant surprise to all.Cute story, just OK for me.

It's Christmas time in Lipton, England, a small town with a wonderful shop full of candy owned by Rosie Hopkins, who took over the place from her ailing aunt, Lilian. The story shows us Rosie's relationship with her aunt and, also, with her boyfriend and all of her crazy family, who fly in from Australia, to spend the holiday with her. Lots of tragedy but then even more happiness happens during this Christmas season.

I received the book, Christmas at Rosie Hopkins'Sweetshop, as an Early Reviewer. This was sequel to an earlier book about Rosie that explained how she and her live-in nobleman boyfriend, Stephen, got together. Still, one can follow the story easily without having read the earlier book. The book lingers too long initially, with more than enough references to awful weather, and living in cold, drafty homes. I wanted to say enough already with the dark and dismal setting: get on with the story. After the first half of the book, the story improves with a rich layer of secondary characters that are more interesting that the two main ones. There is tragedy, mystery, long-lost loves reunited, and enough family humor to redeem the early dragging along. Rosie's aunt,Lilian, who is in a local nursing home, has a rich character,as does one of the children in the small school where Stephen is teacher. That helped me to tolerate the book until it developed some steam.

The holiday season has begun, and I need my holiday story. Christmas at Rosie Hopkins’ Sweetshop by Jenny Colgan displayed so many of the holiday traditions and miracles. The story is set in an English village with loads of amazing characters. The book is part of a series, but this book stands alone very well. I adore the writing style of Jenny Colgan and will need to read more by this funny and thought-provoking author. Rosie’s mother, brother, sister-in-law, and their 3 children come to visit from Australia, and what a crazy bunch. Then we have Earth Mother Hester and her crazy ideas concerning the life of her son, Edison. Of course, Stephen, Rosie’s boyfriend, must decide if Rosie is “the one”. Jenny Colgan gives a family tree, diagram of the village, and many delicious recipes. I love all these extra touches.

A sugary sweet holiday story filled with so many things I love about Christmas. Romance, community, fun, and great characters. Oh how I love a story centering around Christmastime!I received this book via LibraryThing's early reviewer program. A positive review was not required.

A cozy holiday story, even with a tragedy at the center. (There is actually a book preceding this one, which I hadn't read before I read this book, but reading it later gave me the backstory, and was enjoyable, too.) I read a lot of Christmas stories, and while most don't include such tragic events, I was hooked, and kept reading, even through my tears! I like the small town feel, the sometimes quirky, characters and the unexpected twists thrown in. Overall, and enjoyable read, and would make a good Christmas movie! I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christmas stories!

Revisits the story from Sweetshop of Dreams with some twists, now you know the characters, now they're snowed in. Stephen is starting teaching when a truck collides with the school, landing Stephen in hospital and Edison seriously injured. Then a man joins the home Lilian is in, and Lilian is convinced she knows him from somewhere and Rosie's family have decided to visit from Australia, for Christmas. The future could change everything. It's fun, light stuff but entertaining.
