    The Queen & Prince Philip

    It is customary for foreign dignitaries to give a gift to the queen when they visit - or on a special occasion (such as her silver, gold or diamond jubilee). A number of leaders have actually given Her Majesty animals throughout her reign - some of which she has had to place in the care of London zoo. These have included jaguars, beavers, sloths, giant turtles and an elephant. She has also been given a pair of cowboy boots, some pineapples and a box of snail shells.

    Despite that fact that the Queen’s actual birthday is on the 21st of April, it is officially celebrated in June. The date chosen changes every year and is generally held on a Saturday so more people can join in the fun!
