    The creature was massively large. It possessed the body and face of a prehistoric lizard with horns atop its head. The claws were huge with long nails for picking up prey. Its skin was scaly and its wings were enormous even when tucked behind its body. The primitive-looking creature resembled something one would see at a museum display; next to the T-Rex bones.

    It was one of six gargoyles spaced across the top of an old high-rise apartment building in New York City. The gargoyles were so high above the sidewalk that most people were unaware of them. Only an occasional helicopter pilot could see the enormity and magnificence of the gargoyles.

    It sat perfectly still for about one hundred years until one evening, suddenly, the creature awoke and became aware. It began to blink and very slowly it was able to move and breathe. The first sense it perceived was its hearing. The creature heard the sounds of the city below; the buses, cars and people. It gazed upon the night sky with wonder. It breathed in all of the city smells and the cold wind that swept across the rooftop.

    It had to take slow, baby steps to attain balance. To feel the roof below its claws took the creature by surprise. It was an overwhelming and wonderful sensation for the creature to move and to feel.

    Eventually it walked, slowly, then ran and was able to fly off of the building and into the night sky. It soared with its powerful wings for hours until it felt its body becoming stiff and returning to stone once again. The creature knew that it had to return to the top of the building to perch.
