Chapter 1
Good Morning
I woke up. That, in and of itself, was not an unusual event. After all it has happened everyday of my life. But today something was different. I woke up with an utterly delicious sensation below me. I ran the tips of my fingers over the sheets below. They were slippery and cool. I decided they were made of satin. Our sheets were made of a thin and frankly crappy cotton, so this was unusual. The second odd thing that I noticed was the smell of bacon and eggs wafting in the air around me.
Troy is sickened by the odor of any hot foods. I do all of the cooking and the eating by myself at home. All of this lends strongly to my feeling that I am definitely not at home right now. I sat up and look around to try and figure out exactly where I am, and my suspicions were confirmed. The bed I was sitting in was bigger than any I had ever seen. It was a four-poster made of a deep brown wood with a glossy shine. The room, like the bed, was oversized with parchment colored walls and a long line of big, sunny windows on the right. Troy was most definitely not going to be here.
Hello,
I said to the air, hoping that someone would answer and I could at least find out why I was in a strange bed. I began to hope that I had not done something that would change the way that Troy looked at me literally forever. No one can hold a grudge quite like a vampire. A few seconds later a man walked out of what looked like a bathroom. Two things were immediately apparent. First of all he was not shy. He was very shirtless at the moment. The most amazing abs that I had ever seen were currently on display.
Second, he was also a werewolf. They say that you know your own kind when you see them, but up until now I hadn’t had a chance to test that theory. He turned towards the bed, smiled at me and said, Hi,
very casually. Then he stepped back into the bathroom. I could see him pulling on a shirt.
I slid out of the blankets; the fact that I’m still dressed sends a wave of relief washing over me. It is now a lot less likely that I slept with this arguably gorgeous man who addressed me with a familiar casualness. He came back out, fully dressed now, Who are you?
I realized that I had blurted it out. It wasn’t the most important question, but it seemed like a good place to start. He smiled, showing a row of perfect teeth, I’m Marcus,
he said. It’s a pleasure to meet you,
I said more out of the habit of good manners than anything else, Should I know you?
The second I said it I thought it was rude, but it only made him chuckle. I’ll explain over breakfast,
was all that he said.
The food sounded good and Troy wouldn’t be awake for hours. I decided to humor Marcus for now and find out exactly what was going on. I gave him a chance to have about two bites of his eggs before I pressed him again. He cocked his head and smiled at me, You are a woman about your business aren’t you? I like that. You’re here because you are my mate.
That sentence had me heading for what I hoped was the door. I was only a few step away when a hand clamped down over my wrist, not painfully hard but firmly and unyielding.
I turned and looked him in the
