About this ebook

It started on the beach, but it is that where it will end?
Jada Stanley isn't on vacation. She's a graduate student who just happens to be doing her research in one of the most beautiful parts of Brazil. But when she is paired up with the smart and handsome Cole Shepherd, research is the last thing that's on her mind.
Cole turns out to be more than just another academic when he saves Jada from danger. But it's not just danger that keeps throwing them together. Jada and Cole get hot and heavy on the beach after research hours, and she can’t get him out of her mind.
Was it all just a one night fling? Or will this hot relationship work outside of a tropical paradise?

This book is intended for readers over 18 years old, and contains explicit themes of sex between a curvy black anthropologist and her sexy white partner.

    NOT YOUR DAMSEL

    Why am I always late?!

My heels clatter against the tiles of the research hall as I rush to Professor Wilson's office. I hug my files against my chest with one hand as I try to shove my arm through the sleeve of my jacket. Yep, that's me. Jada Stanley. The perpetually tardy anthropologist.

I spot the door to the office down the hall. Just a few more steps and I'll be there! I grab the doorknob and pull it open, rushing inside.

Nice to see that you could make it, Miss Stanley.

Professor Wilson smiles while everyone else waits for me to take a seat. Their eyes follow me as I try not to look like I just ran through the hallway, still semi-undressed. Somehow, I don't think my ruse is working.

So then, back to the introductions…

Professor Wilson's voice drones on as I scan the faces of the others in the room. We were all lucky enough to get chosen for this research project in Brazil. Just eight grad students working with an expert in their field, with all expenses paid by the university. How sweet is that?

Even though none of us know each other, we've heard about each other. Word gets around, you know? Everyone knows about the cream of the crop.

I'm the only woman in the room. On top of that, I'm the only black person. But I'm used to that by now. I just hoped that maybe I could run into a cute black guy during one of these research projects, but I guess I can just keep dreaming. And the white guys? Well, everyone knows they don't like girls like me.

I vaguely recognize everyone except for one guy. He's sitting right next to the professor, and he looks so calm and confident. Even seated, I can tell he's tall and way more fit than most guys you meet in anthropology grad school. His light brown hair is tousled, as if he just strolled in this morning. For a moment the gaze of his bright green eyes meet mine.

And this is Cole Shepherd, Professor Wilson says. He puts his hand on Cole's shoulder and smiles. I'm sure you've heard quite a lot about him already.

That's Cole Shepherd? Of course I knew about him. I'd only spent dozens of nights jealously reading his papers and wishing I had written them myself. In my mind, he was just some kind of lonely geek who spent all of his free time doing research. Who would have imagined he could have been this much of a hunk!

I don't have much time to gawk, though, because Professor Wilson is already changing the topic.

I finally get to reveal the location of this research trip to you. We're going to Salvador, Bahia, Wilson says.

Yes, I think. Beaches and sunshine!

"You probably already know this, but it's one of the most dangerous cities in the world. So try not to walk outside by yourselves. Especially not once it gets dark."

While he's talking, Professor Wilson hands out booklets to each of us. The neat little folders hold our plane tickets, hotel reservations, and basically any information we could ever want to know about the trip.

I've arranged for several translators to help us, but I hope that you've all been studying your Portuguese, Wilson says.

I gulp a little. Sure, I know how to say things like, Where's the bathroom? But that is about it. I hope I get a good translator.

We're flying out tomorrow afternoon, so get yourselves ready and I'll see you then.

As we all leave, I can't help but look back at Cole.
