This is a book of the elements—earth, fire, water, air.

There is a fifth, whether or not we speak of it. But, for now, let us settle with the four.

All things can be reduced to the elements.

The elements, in turn, define all things.

All that exists is a collection—a compound—of its composing elements. In each thing you encounter there is a fire, an earth, water and air. In each thing is light, darkness, changeability and flow. Nothing is exempt.

The magick of the elements is magick at its most fundamental and primordial level. It is the original magick, prior even to the magick of the Sun and Moon. The fire that roasts the lamb is as powerful as the Sun above, and the water of a nearby lake or stream is as vital as the Moon. As hierarchies took shape in society, this was lost, for a King always wishes to stand to his people as the Sun stands to the earth, forbidding them to see their own intrinsic fire. But all that is elemental even in the small corner of space we inhabit is also all that is elemental in the wider cosmos. We touch a portion of the universe therein, and it is no different with magick.

The planets and their spirits, also, have their elements.

As do the Zodiac.

Fire is Atziloth

Air is Briah

Water is Yetzirah

Earth is Assiah

What is true of the macrocosm is true of the microcosm, as what is true of a god is true of a person and what is true of the vast cosmos is true of your small, silent space.

These are the rudiments and layers of all things. Walking through their long corridor, one walks the entire span of body, soul and cosmos. They
