About this ebook

The world as we know it is no longer what it seems. Hidden away in the Suburn Mountains was a secret no one expected to find or a secret no one expected to live long enough to tell. An unknown cataclysmic event swept across the country, sparing nearly none. However, there are some survivors. These survivors are the most unlikely type. As they find their way out of the hidden town, they will come to see that the world has changed... but not for the better.

I'm just a young woman with a hyperactive imagination. I've been writing stories since elementary (early 90s) and just recently decided to try my hand at publishing something. I'm always creating new story ideas and if you're lucky, I'll share it with the world.

    INTRODUCTION

When five young adults get trapped in a deserted desert town, can they survive the elements and themselves long enough to get rescued?

The world as we know it is no longer what it seems. Hidden away in the Suburn Mountains was a secret no one expected to find or a secret no one expected to live long enough to tell. CHAPTER 1

Shovels broke ground, digging a grave as the sun hit high noon. Dear old mother Abigail was found dead in her home by one of the local girls. It could have been a number of things, but odds are the heat got her. Wiping their forehead, Gabriel sighed and looked up to the sky. It was going to be a long hard summer if the heat was already killing people. Gabriel pulled their chin-length strawberry blond hair into a low ponytail before continuing digging the grave. They looked over at the other person digging with them; a tall, serious faced young man with sooty black hair and topaz eyes framed behind frame-less glasses. He focused on the task at hand, making mental notes about the depth of the hole.

Eddy, is this deep enough yet? The man looked at Gabriel with a scowl. For someone under thirty years old, he sure acted like a middle age man.

I thought I told you not call me Eddy. And we just have a little more, Gabriel. We don't want wild animals digging her up. Gabriel groaned in response but kept digging nonetheless. They would rather be digging a hole under the burning sun than trying to look for supplies around the abandoned town they were forced to called home. After a few minutes, Gabriel got out of the hole and looked down into it.

Looks good to me, darling. Want me to get her? The other climbed out, dusting off his jeans, Yes. And would you stop with the pet names?

You're no fun, Edmund. Gabriel walked towards the main part of the town where several houses stood around a small church house. They went up to the third furthest house from the church and opened the door. While it was sad that old lady Abigail was dead, it just meant more resources for the rest of them. They walked over to the wrapped up body and picked it up. She was a kind hearted old woman who took all of them in years ago when they got trapped in this hellhole of a town and Gabriel was happy for that; but now that resources were getting scarce, there was no point in wasting them on someone who was already at Death's door.

Edmund watched Gabriel carry Abigail over their shoulder, panting slightly. There was something not right with Gabriel that Edmund could sense but trying to bring it up to them was like talking to a small child throwing a temper tantrum.

Here she is. Do I just drop her in or what?

Have some respect for her. Edmund climbed back into the hole before looking up, Hand her down to me. Gabriel scoffed and dropped her into Edmund's arms. Edmund stumbled but laid the body on the ground before getting out of the hole.

One of us should say something on her behalf. Edmund said, looking at Gabriel.

She was a great woman who didn't know when to stay out of someone's business.
