About this series

Ordered to protect a Hollywood starlet 24/7 at her mansion, Nathan Parker gladly abandons the snow-bound Midwest to bask in Los Angeles. Sunshine, warm air, ocean breezes, and luxury living. Sure, his boss expects him to also conduct insurance fraud investigations remotely in his spare time. And he’s never been a bodyguard before. Still, it sounds like an easy gig.

Until it isn’t.

Even though the mansion is fortified with a high fence, motion-sensitive lights, security cameras, and armed guards, an intruder finds a way in. He steals valuables. He’s violent. He does it repeatedly. And each time, he manages to escape. Yet the starlet Ashley Wild insists on staying in her home and being seen in public by her fans, in spite of the threat she faces.

Nathan’s boss orders him to catch this stalker and end the threat. Yet he is surrounded by people he cannot trust: the armed guards, Ashley’s conservator, her unruly friends, and even the starlet herself. And quickly, some of them become outright enemies.

While Nathan attempts to keep a low profile, being a bodyguard for Ashley Wild puts him in the spotlight. That draws people from his past: the dangerous ones, and the really dangerous deadly ones. They converge on Los Angeles, and embroil him in colliding schemes of treachery and deceit and greed.

In the end, Nathan, the starlet, and her entourage have no choice but to run and fight a guerilla war on the streets of LA to save their own lives.

When Nathan Parker was discarded from his job in Cincinnati in the economic collapse of 2008, he took his shattered confidence west for a new start. Near the small town of Willow Run, Montana, he finds a man’s body. Then it vanishes. Dismissed as a lunatic drifter by a hulking inept Deputy and an aging Sheriff, Nathan Parker vows to prove there was a body and to discover why he died. He finds support in a local woman, a fiery-tempered red head, who has a passion for books. And a passion for trouble. She helps him in his quest and becomes his romantic interest. As Parker digs deeper into this sleepy little town’s history, he unearths a web of deception and greed that is anything but wholesome. Then like the dead man’s body, local citizens begin to vanish. But no one seems to notice. Parker doesn’t know who can be trusted. When the last pieces of the mystery fall into place, he also vanishes, accused as a cop killer on the run. Now he must use his wits to escape. Taking the law into his own hands, he must save himself and his fellow prisoners, reveal the conspiracy, and win back the affection of the red-haired woman.

And because of his checkered past, they chose to ignore him. Undaunted, Nathan presses the investigation forward alone. Witnesses start dying. Suicide. Drug overdose. A trail of bodies across Montana. The trail has gone cold. But Nathan finds a clue, a thin thread of evidence that leads him to the West Coast. He teams up with an unlikely partner, who helps unravel the mystery as they dig deep into the tangled web of the people they are following. They discover an improbable biotechnology conspiracy that affects the health of the entire nation. He and his new partner are drawn into the tangled web and are trapped. They are left with no choice but to fight to survive in the streets of San Francisco.

Human greed keeps Nathan Parker employed investigating fraud. And greed has drawn him back to his native Ohio to settle a seemingly simple life insurance claim involving the death of a billionaire in the prosperous town of Woodview. But he soon learns there is nothing simple about this case. Saddled with an incompetent partner and a boss who wants to be rid of him, he wades through a maze of uncooperative and shadowy witnesses. Chasing down leads that extend from the lowest rank of society to the highest echelon, Nathan finds that his investigation simply reveals more levels of complicity. The number of people he can trust steadily declines. Further confounding the situation, an anonymous tipster haunts him with a clue that doesn’t seem to help in the least. Keeping Nathan firmly grounded is a budding relationship with a blond-haired woman. Yet even she has troubles of her own, dragging him into confrontation with a man who has a history of violence. His investigation reveals a complex conspiracy that goes much deeper than insurance fraud. After peeling back its last layer, Nathan is sickened by the foul rot underlying the quaint community. Revealing his findings leads to a chaotic climax that provides plot twists to the very last chapter. (Book 3 in the Nathan Hale Parker series)

She attacked him. That was Nathan Parker's introduction to the secretive, nameless girl with a troubled past. A hesitant witness to the disposal of the corpses of two unidentified children, she ran from him. Repeatedly. But for ex-cop Nathan Parker, running is not an option. Having found the bodies, he is inescapably tied to the case, even though it has nothing to do with his job as an insurance fraud investigator. Compelled to discover who the children were and who killed them, Nathan ignores the warnings of the detectives pursuing the case. He reconnects with the nameless girl, whose guarded, bizarre, and often aggressive behavior make working with her and prying information from her unwieldy challenges. On top of that, she has the habit of disappearing whenever the going gets tough. In spite of the struggles of their reluctant partnership, they pick apart the tangled web of the conspiracy shrouding the deaths of the children. In this crusade, Nathan collides with his boss, the police, and his crumbling personal life. And with each step forward, the girl entangles him, pulling him further down a dark path that crosses the line between right and wrong. When their frenzied investigation ends, with the arrest of the architect of the conspiracy, she disappears again, running nameless, leaving Nathan to deal with the lawless chaos they created.

For Nathan Parker, it started as a vacation, a getaway to a place he’d never been before. His boss, though, had a different plan, detouring him to a small town in the middle of nowhere for an insurance fraud investigation. But a natural disaster traps him there, along with the troublesome survivors. While Nathan desperately tries to restore order to the lawless town, he uncovers a sinister murder plot and a long-standing conflict among the people who live there. Now his own life is in danger. Some vacation. While he struggles to survive, his secretive girlfriend Amber has a different agenda. Hundreds of miles away, she pursues her personal crusade, one that she never shared with anyone. Not even with him. Yet she expects his help to complete a quest she simply cannot do alone. Hunted by law enforcement and a team of thugs, she races against time to find her target, rescue Nathan, and complete the mission, one which may be far more dangerous than being trapped in that lawless town. The colliding objectives of their missions pull Nathan and Amber apart, and then fling them back together again. Repeatedly. To survive, they have to rely on one another, but the weight of their own secrets is holding them back. How can these two work together if they can't even tell each other the whole truth? Time flies, and the window of opportunity to complete her mission rapidly closes. Tick-tock.

The trouble is, Nathan doesn’t have it. He never did. Fending off the distractions of an insurance fraud investigation back home, training a new hire, and attending the conference, Nathan pleas with the local authorities for help in finding her. But the police, who don’t find any evidence of a kidnapping, cast him off as an annoying tourist. Until a deadly blast proves him right. How can this peaceful tourist destination warrant theft, kidnapping, and murder? It makes no sense. Yet with each step, Nathan is pulled deeper into a web of conspiracy and terrorism. And the secret mission he uncovers is far more sinister than abduction. At stake is the fate of the entire Western world. Finally reunited, Nathan and his girlfriend must face the daunting task of taking on the terrorists, and do it quickly. Because time is critical. Tick tock. The clock is winding down to zero.
