      Introduction

      Fascination with musical expression is old as the mists of time. It seems to be wired into human DNA. Music is a faithful companion in good times of celebration and bad times of difficulty. Always waiting to reveal its essential magnetism and never failing to engage or inspire. There is such a reverence for music makers in general and for guitar in particular that the level of regard and respect surprised me at first. Musicians and non-musicians alike have received me with accommodations normally reserved for celebrities. For that I am grateful and careful not to overstep the bounds of professionalism, decorum, and generosity.

      I want to thank those who made it possible for me to be here with you today. Together we share a part in the epic narrative of life. My grandmother Margaret Meehan was my first music guide and her exceptional skills with ragtime jazz piano are my original inspiration and window into the vast expanse of possibilities in music. I am standing on the shoulders of giants too numerous to mention but they know who they are and why they do not require accolades for repayment. I dedicate this work to them and to my tribe, the Coolerati people, who aspire to expand horizons in the heroic quest of divine beauty and positive personal transformation.

      There are many Internet resources freely available for your pleasure once you know the core material presented here. I have lived a life of adventure, accomplished my primary goals, and survived cancer. But my greatest triumph in life is the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment I have knowing I achieved one of the highest summits of human endeavor. The view from up here is truly spectacular.
