    Chapter 1

    Alice stared out towards the lighthouse on the quay as she stood at the bay window fingering her blonde curls. For seven long years she had looked out at the towering beacon hoping that one day it would lure her husband home. Every day she would scan the horizon; the white capped waves anticipating a broken down rowboat and a disheveled sailor coming home.

    Joe had been a fisherman since he was old enough to walk, at least that’s how his father had told it, his chest swelling with pride. He had been a fisherman in a long line of fisherman and Alice knew when he proposed that she would forever be his second love. Joe was married to the sea.

    It had only been a year after their marriage when Joe left for the six month lobster season. Every day of his absence Alice had prayed for his safe return, yet when the boat returned to port her new groom was nowhere to be found. It
