Dedication
To Lynn Galovich
YOU are the wind beneath my wings. In so many ways, for all these years. I would not be who I am without your love, your support, and your tenacity.
To Lori Felicity Cimino
Thanks for all the ways you improved my life and supported my dreams.
To Samantha Mainville
Thank you for your courage. I am not an easily edited. You walked the fire with barely a scorch mark!
To Don McIlroy
You are my rock. I try to remember to tell you most days how much I appreciate you. I hope some days I succeed. I love you to distraction.
To my sons, Jeremiah and Jared Matthew.
You both make me so proud. I hope you can be proud of me as well.
Acknowledgments
To the clueless, the inept, the un-dedicated, the uniformed, the power-mad, the close talkers, the overzealous, the unable to appreciate, the compliment stingy, the loud talkers, the unimaginative, and the rigid, possibly frigid bosses, mangers supervisors, and team leaders that led me to the journey of self-employment.
While I am a more demanding taskmaster than any of you were - at least I understand the project, the nuances, and the skills needed far better than you ever could. How can I express my gratitude? Easily. I will not call you by name. This saves the attorney fees and out of court settlements. You would neither understand nor learn from the experience.
You have reached the top of your particular evolutionary ladder. You don't even understand that every year spent in a cubicle under florescent lighting is not actually making you stronger. It is killing you, or at minimum sucking the humanity out of you. The longer you remain in middle management the more drone-like you become. The air out here is sweeter for having served under your jackboots...which, as long as we are being honest, was never a good look for you.
Prologue
This is a collection of essays or observations on the pitfalls and perks of working from a home office. A discussion on transitions with thought provoking questions about the passage from a cubicle to a home office. The journey from working inside the box to the breath-taking rush of working outside of one.
