    It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    The climate is typical of a city of the Po Valley with relatively harsh winters and hot summers. The proximity of the river Po and the lakes around the town characterize its weather with a considerable humidity.

    Pill2 – Main monuments and attractions

    The Duomo: St. Peter’s Cathedral

    Construction of 1395 -1401, in the Romanesque style. The façade made of Carrara marble, dates back to 1761. The interior is divided into three naves the first of which of the sixteenth century. In the Cathedral the remains of St. Anselm of Baggio, patron of the city, are preserved. It is the seat of bishop of Mantua.

    The Palazzo Ducale is an architectural complex consisting of several buildings connected between them in various ways (corridors and galleries, courtyards, some hanging, and gardens). It is also known as the palace of the Gonzaga family and is one of the main historical buildings of the city.

    The palace of the Gonzaga is the second in Europe for extension. It is a result of a series of buildings constructed by each Duke who wanted their own home and annexing it to the existing complex.
