    True Bible Study - Second Corinthians - Maura K. Hill

    Preface

    It is my desire to make known God’s Word and Will, so that people will have the opportunity to be saved, come to full knowledge of the truth, and live in accordance with God’s intention. God’s Word was and is and will continue to be Truth. It is the Word of Life.

    This book includes information about the following:

    Encouragement

    Triumph in Christ

    An angel of satan sent to buffet Paul

    Ability of God and of Christ

    I have studied and continue to study the Greek papyri and texts of the Bible extensively, and it is from these that I make my Word Translation and Study to provide this in-depth study aid.

    The words that the only true God spoke are the best words to communicate His thoughts. It is because of mankind’s interference, mistranslations, etc, of what God spoke and/or what was written down, and because mankind has removed himself in his thinking so far away from God’s thoughts and words, that I endeavor to help all of us come-back to the integrity and truth of what God says - His Word - His thoughts - His will.

    Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss or comment on this Word Translation and Study via the Contact link on https://www.TrueBibleStudy.com.

    Thanks to God for His love and grace.

    Relevant Notes

    Unless otherwise stated , all scriptures are quoted from one of the following:

    The True Bible Study Word Translation (TBS);

    The TBS Word Translation is translated from the Greek Papyri and Texts by Maura K. Hill.

    The King James Version (KJV);

    The KJV uses italic type to inform the reader that the translators added the word(s) in italic type.

    The various resources and reference materials are listed at https://www.truebiblestudy.com/bible-materials.

    In the TBS Word Translation and Study:

    Words in a parenthesis () and italicized within a scripture verse are words inserted to help our English understanding of those words which are translated from Greek words.

    Words in a parenthesis () in the study of the scripture verse are words of explanation regarding the words prior to the parenthesis.

    Additional explanatory insertions within a scripture verse are enclosed in square brackets [] and italicized.

    Additional explanatory notes in the study of a scripture verse are enclosed in square brackets [] and are usually in relation to the Greek or Hebrew texts.

    A slash in the study of a scripture verse, such as: him/her, indicates an alternative word depending on the context.

    A dash, such as: go there – to Jerusalem, indicates that a certain word or phrase is particularly important or deserving of extra emphasis.

    Hyphenated words, such as: used-to-go, indicates that there is only one corresponding word in the Greek text.

    Non-English words are printed with English letters.

    I use an initial capital letter for all occurrences of the words Lord and Master when referring to either God or the Lord Jesus Christ due to my respect for them, therefore the reader will need to carefully consider the context of each particular usage to understand to whom that usage refers.

    Where the word spirit refers to God, I use an initial capital or upper-case S - Spirit. But when the word spirit refers to the gift of holy spirit, etc, I use a small or lower-case s - spirit.

    Underlined text is used for the English word but when translated from the Greek word alla to show that it implies a strong contrast to that-which has just previously been stated, and/or to strengthen a command.

    Underlined text is used for the singular form of the word you to distinguish it from the plural form of the word you which is not underlined.

    Underlined text is also used for emphasis.

    In order to communicate the fullness of the emphasis when the Greek definite article is repeated both with the noun and its adjective - for example: I Corinthians 15:4 the Greek is te hemera te trite, which literally means the day the third – I translate it as "the day, the third (day)."

    Verbs in the imperfect tense are translated with the words used-to and then the meaning of the verb.

    For example: used-to teach indicates that the one teaching spent time teaching, his action of teaching continued during a past time that is now finished for some reason, not that it was a quick one-time occurrence. The one teaching taught others taking time to teach, and he may have repeated his teaching at different times and in different ways. This tense is also used to historically describe past events relating what happened.

    Verbs in the perfect tense are translated from Greek with a superscript number 2 immediately following the verb - for example: it was written².

    This tense indicates an action done during a past time and which has a present continuing result, meaning it is still the same at the time the verb was spoken or written. Therefore, this example could be translated as: it was written and continues written.

    The noun love¹ or the verb to love¹ comes from the Greek word agape which is God’s kind of love.

    When the Biblical writers wrote, there were no punctuation marks, no chapter or verse divisions indicated, etc, as we see them today in many of our English Bible translations and versions. Therefore we must read the whole context of each particular passage of Scripture for thought-content to more clearly understand the truth of what has been written.

    Also, the original language was not English, and therefore when I may write that the writer said or wrote such and such, please understand that the writer actually spoke and wrote in the original language the equivalent to that-which I state in the English language to the best of my knowledge.

    I recommend that while reading this book, you also have your usual Bible and Biblical study materials open, so as to compare verses and gain greater understanding of the truth of God’s Word.

    Introduction to Second Corinthians

    The Book of Second Corinthians is a letter (epistle) that the Apostle Paul wrote to the church of God in the city of Corinth (his first visit there is recorded in Acts 18:1-18) and to all the holy-people in the whole of Achaia. These people were holy-people (Christians) because they had already received the gift of holy spirit from God by means of the Lord Jesus Christ – Paul and others had preached the good-message (gospel) to them previously and they believed it.

    Paul wrote this letter by revelation to remind and encourage the holy-people regarding the things of God, and to teach them more about all that God has made available. He included more information regarding the gift of holy spirit which is the deposit of the new covenant between God and holy-people by means of the Lord Jesus Christ.

    This second letter was written by Paul in Macedonia not long after he and others had left Asia in the fall (autumn) of 57 A.D. (refer to Acts 20:1), which was not many months after he sent his first letter to the Corinthian church.

    Corinth was the capital city of the Roman province of Achaia, which was in the southern part of modern-day Greece.

    Second Corinthians

    Chapter 1

    ¹:1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by means of (the) intention of God, and Timothy, the brother – to the church of God, the (church) being in Corinth, together with all the holy-people, the (holy-people) being in (the) whole of Achaia; .2 grace to you and peace from God our Father and (the) Lord Jesus Christ.

    .3Blessed (is) the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of pities and God of all encouragement, .4the (One) encouraging us on all our pressure with-a-view-for us to be able to encourage the (people) in all pressure by means of the encouragement which we ourselves are encouraged by God, .5because according as the sufferings of Christ exceed into us thus by means of Christ the encouragement of us also exceeds;

    .6but whether we are pressured (it is) on behalf of the encouragement and salvation of you, whether we are encouraged (it is) on behalf of the encouragement of you, the (encouragement) being caused-to-in-work in patient-endurance of the same sufferings which we also suffer, .7and our hope (is) firm on your behalf, having known² that as you are sharers-in-common of the sufferings thus also (you are sharers-in-common) of the encouragement.

    .8For we do not intend you to not-know, brothers, on behalf of our pressure, the (pressure) having come-to-pass in Asia, that we were pressure-weighed according to a super-throw over ability, so-as-for us to be caused-to utterly-despair even of life, .9but we ourselves have² the judicial-sentence of death in ourselves in order that we may not be having been persuaded² on ourselves but on God, the (One) raising-up the dead-people, .10Who from so-great deaths rescued us and He will rescue (us), into Whom we hoped² even yet He will rescue (us) – .11(during) also your under-working-together (as servants) with supplication on our behalf, in order that in much face the gracious-gift into us may be the-cause-of-thanks by means of many-people on your behalf;

    .12for our boasting is this, the witness of our conscience, that we behaved in the world in (the) holiness and genuineness of God, and not in fleshly wisdom but in (the) grace of God, but more-exceedingly towards you, .13for we do not write other-things to you but the-things-which you read, but I hope that you will fully-know until (the) completion .14according as you also fully-knew us in-part, because we are your boast fully-as also you (are) ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.

    .15And with this persuasion formerly I used-to deliberately-determine to go towards you in order that you may have a second grace, .16and by means of you to go-through into Macedonia and again from Macedonia to go towards you, and from you to be sent-forward into Judea.

    .17Therefore deliberately-determining this, consequently (it was) not-something I used with lightness, was it? – (no), or the-things-which I counsel do I counsel according to flesh in order that it may be with me: yes and no?

    .18But God (is) believable that our word towards you is not yes and no – .19for the son of God, Jesus Christ, the (one) having been heralded-forth among you by means of us, by means of me and Silvanus and Timothy, did not become yes and no – but it became² yes in him, .20for as-many promises of God in him (they are) yes and by means of him (they are) with-certainty towards glory to God by means of us;

    .21but the (One) making us firm together with you into Christ and having anointed us (is) God, .22the (One) also having sealed us – even having given the deposit of the spirit in our hearts. .23But I call-upon God (Who is) witness to-myself on my soul that (for the reason of) sparing you I no-longer went into Corinth, .24not because we are lord of your belief but we are workers-together of your joy, for with belief you stood².

    Back to top

    Chapter 2

    ²:1 For I judged this for myself: not to go towards you again in sorrow, .2 for if I cause you sorrow, who (is) also the (person) making me glad-minded except the (person) being caused-sorrow from me!

    .3And I wrote this same-thing in order that having come I may not have sorrow from whom it used-to-be necessary (for) me to joy, having been persuaded² on you all that my joy is (the joy) of all of you; .4for from much pressure and anguish of heart I wrote to you by means of many tears, not in order that you may be caused-sorrow but in order that you may know the love¹ which I have more-exceedingly into you;

    .5but since someone caused-sorrow², he did not cause me sorrow² but in-part in order that I may not pressure-weight-on all you, .6this censure, the (censure) by more-people, (is) sufficient to the-person-of-this-kind, .⁷so-that contrariwise rather (for) you to graciously-forgive and to encourage (him) lest-somehow with more-exceeding sorrow the-person-of-this-kind may be swallowed,

    .8on-which-account I encourage you to confirm love¹ into him; .9for into this also I wrote in order that I may know your proof (that) you are obedient into all-things; .10but to whom you graciously-forgive something I also, for that-which I also graciously-forgave², since I graciously-forgave² something, (it is) because-of you in (the) face of Christ .11in order that we may not be covetously-claimed-as-more by satan, for we do not not-know his mindful-devices.

    .12But having come into Troas with-a-view-to the good-message of Christ, even (after) a door having been opened² to me in (the) Lord, .13I did not have² relief with my spirit for me not to find Titus, my brother, but having arranged-myself-away-from them I went-out into Macedonia.

    .14But thanks to God, the (One) always triumphing us in the Christ and manifesting the odor of the knowledge of him by means of us in every place .15because we are (the) good-odor of Christ to God among the (people) being saved and among the (people) being destroyed, .16to whom (the people being destroyed) indeed an odor from death into death, but to whom (the people being saved) an odor from life into life. And towards these-things, who (is) sufficient? .17For we are not as many-people adulterating the word of God but (we are) as from genuineness, but (we are) as from God – before God we utter-forth in Christ.

    Chapter 3

    ³:1 Do we begin again to commend ourselves? Or, we do not need commendatory letters towards you or from you, as some-people, do we? – (no.) .2 You are our letter, (the letter) having been in-written ² in our hearts, (the letter) being known and being read by all men, .3 (you are) being manifested that you are Christ’s letter, (the letter) having been ministered by us and having been in-written ² not with black-ink but with (the) spirit of (the) living God, not in stony tablets but in tablets (which are) fleshy hearts.

    .4But we have this-kind-of persuasion by means of Christ towards God, .5not that we are sufficient from ourselves to calculate as (our sufficiency is) from ourselves but our sufficiency (is) from God .6Who also made us sufficient ministers of (the) new covenant, not of writing but of spirit, for the writing kills but the spirit makes-alive.

    .7But if the ministry of the death in writings, having been typed-in² stones, was caused-to-become in glory so-as-for the sons of Israel not to be able to gaze-intently into the face of Moses because-of the glory of his face, the (glory) being rendered-ineffective – .8how will the ministry of the spirit not rather be in glory?

    .9For if (there is) glory with the ministry of the condemnation, much rather the ministry of the righteousness exceeds with glory; .10for also the-thing having been glorified² was not glorified² in this particular: by-reason-of the super-throwing glory, .11for if the-thing being rendered-ineffective (is being rendered-ineffective) by means of glory, much rather the-thing remaining (is remaining) in glory.

    .12Therefore having this-kind-of hope we use much boldness, .13and not fully-as Moses used-to-put a covering on his face towards (the purpose of) the sons of Israel not to gaze-intently into the completion of the-thing being rendered-ineffective, .14but their mindful-devices were-hardened, for continuously-until the today day the same covering remains on the reading of the old covenant not being uncovered because it is being rendered-ineffective in Christ, .15but until today when ever Moses may be read a covering is laid on their heart, .16but when if-ever it may turn-back towards (the) Lord the covering is taken-from-around (their heart);

    .17but the Lord is the spirit, and where the spirit of (the) Lord (is, there is) freedom, .18and we, with (our) face having been uncovered², reflect-from-ourselves the glory of (the) Lord, the (people) transforming the same image from glory into glory, fully-as from (the) Lord (who is) spirit.

    Back to top

    Chapter 4

    ⁴:1 Because-of-this having this ministry according as we were shown-mercy, we do not despond .2 but we renounced-from-ourselves the hidden-things of the shame, not walking in every-working, neither deceiving (towards) the word of God, but with the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves towards every conscience of men before God.

    .3But if our good-message is having been covered² it is having been covered² among the (people) being destroyed, .4among whom the god of this age blinded the mindful-devices of the unbelievers with-a-view-for the lightness of the good-message of the glory of Christ who is (the) image of God not to light (among them), .5for we do not herald-forth ourselves but Jesus Christ (who is) Lord, but ourselves your slaves by means of Jesus, .6because God, the (One) having said, Light will shine from darkness, (is the One) Who shone in our hearts towards (our having the) lightness of the knowledge of His glory in (the) face of Jesus Christ.

    .7But we have this treasure in earthenware vessels in order that the super-throw of the ability may be of God and not from us – .8in every (manner) being pressured but not being restrained, despairing but not utterly-despairing, .9being persecuted but not left-down-in (that state), being thrown-down but not being destroyed, .10always carrying-around the process-of-dying of Jesus in the body in order that also the life of Jesus Christ in the body may be manifested;

    .11for if we, the (holy-people) living, are given-over into death because-of Jesus (it is) in order that also the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh – .12so-that death is caused-to-in-work in us but (it is in order that) life (is caused to in-work) in you.

    .13But having the same spirit of the belief according to the-thing having been written², I believed, on-which-account I uttered-forth – also we believe, on-which-account also we utter-forth, .14having known² that the (One) having raised-up Jesus will also raise-up us together with Jesus and will present (us) together with you, .15for all-things (are) because-of you in order that the grace, having become more-and-more, may cause the thankfulness to exceed by means of more-people into the glory of God;

    .16on-which-account we do not despond but since also our outside man is being throughly-corrupted but our inside (man) is being newed-up daily, .17for the momentary lightness of pressure renders-to-work for us according to a super-throw into a super-throw eternal pressured-weight of glory .18(during) our not scoping the-things being observed but (scoping) the-things not being observed, for the-things being observed (are) temporary but the-things not being observed (are) eternal.

    Back to top

    Chapter 5

    ⁵:1 For we knew ² that if-ever our earthly house of the tent may be disunited we have a building from God, a house not-handmade, eternal in the heavens; .2 for also in this (tent) we groan, earnestly-longing to clothe-upon-ourselves with our dwelling-place, the (dwelling-place) from heaven, .3 since-indeed also having clothed-ourselves we will not be found naked;

    .4for also we, the (holy-people) being in the tent, groan being pressure-weighed on which we do not intend to unclothed-ourselves but to clothe-upon-ourselves in order that the mortal-thing may be swallowed by the life – .5but the (One) having rendered us to-work into this same-thing (is) God, the (One) having given to us the deposit of the spirit.

    .6Therefore (we are) always being courageous and having known² that (while we are) residing-in in the body we reside-out from the Lord, .7for by means of belief we walk - not by means of a seen-thing, .8but we are courageous and we consider-it-good rather to reside-out from the body and to reside-in with the Lord; .9on-which-account also we love-and-honor, whether residing-in or residing-out, to be well-pleasing to him .10for it is necessary (for) us all to be manifested in-front-of the judgment-seat of Christ in order that each-person may bring-to-himself (his) own-things of the body towards the-things-which he practiced, whether good or bad.

    .11Therefore having known² the fear of the Lord we persuade men; but we were manifested² to God, but I hope also to have been manifested² in your consciences.

    .12We do not again commend ourselves to you but (we are) giving to you a starting-point of a boast on our behalf in order that you may have (a boast) towards the (people) boasting in face and not in heart, .13for whether we were bewildered (it was) for God or we soundly-think (it is) for you;

    .14for the love¹ of Christ holds us together, having judged this that one-person died on behalf of all-people, consequently all-people died, .15and he died on behalf of all-people in order that the (people) living may no-longer live to themselves but to the (one) having died and having been raised-up on behalf of them.

    .16So-that we from-now-on knew² not-one-person according to flesh, since also we knew² Christ according to flesh but now we no-longer know (him according to flesh), .17so-that if someone (is) in Christ (he is) a new creation, the old-things went-by, look!, new-things came-to-pass²; .18but all-things (are) from God, the (One) having reconciled us to Himself by means of Christ, and having given to us the ministry of the reconciliation – .19as that God used-to-be reconciling (the) world to Himself in Christ not calculating their falling-asides to them, and having put in us the good-message of the reconciliation.

    .20Therefore we function-as-elders on behalf of Christ, as of God encouraging by means of us, we supplicate on behalf of Christ, "You must be reconciled to God – .21He made the (one) not having known sin (to be) sin on behalf of us in order that we may become (the) righteousness of God in him."

    Chapter 6

    ⁶:1 But working-together (with God) we also encourage you not to accept the grace of God into emptiness, .2 for He says, "I heard you on an acceptable time and I came-to-help you in (the) day of salvation" – look!, now (is the) well-acceptable time – look!, now (is the) day of salvation.

    .3(We are) giving not-one stumbling in nothing in order that the ministry may not be blemished .4but commending ourselves in every (manner) as ministers of God: in much patient-endurance, in pressures, in constraints, in restraints, .5in strokes, in prisons, in instabilities, in labors, in sleeplessnesses, in fastings; .6in pureness, in knowledge, in patience, in benevolence, in holy spirit, in love¹ without-hypocrisy, .7in (the) word of truth, in (the) ability of God;
