    Preface

    It is my desire to make known God’s Word and Will, so that people will have the opportunity to be saved, come to full knowledge of the truth, and live in accordance with God’s intention. God’s Word was and is and will continue to be Truth. It is the Word of Life.

    This book includes information about the following:

    o God and His son, the Lord Jesus Christ

    o The good message

    o How to be saved

    o Judeans and Gentiles

    o Grace and glory

    I have studied and continue to study the Greek papyri and texts of the Bible extensively, and it is from these that I make my Word Translation and Study to provide this in-depth study aid.

    The words that the only true God spoke are the best words to communicate His thoughts. It is because of mankind’s interference, mistranslations, etc, of what God spoke and/or what was written down, and because mankind has removed himself in his thinking so far away from God’s thoughts and words, that I endeavor to help all of us come-back to the integrity and truth of what God says - His Word - His thoughts - His will.

    Please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss or comment on this Word Translation and Study via the Contact link on https://www.TrueBibleStudy.com.

    Thanks to God for His love and grace.

    Relevant Notes

    Unless otherwise stated, all scriptures are quoted from one of the following:

    o The True Bible Study Word Translation (TBS) is translated from the Greek Papyri and Texts by Maura K. Hill.

    o The King James Version (KJV) uses italic type to inform the reader that the translators added the word(s) in italic type.

    The various resources and reference materials are listed at https://www.truebiblestudy.com/bible-materials.

    In the TBS Word Translation and Study:

    o Words in a parenthesis () and italicized within a scripture verse are words inserted to help our English understanding of those words which are translated from Greek words.

    o Words in a parenthesis () in the study of the scripture verse are words of explanation regarding the words prior to the parenthesis.

    o Additional explanatory insertions within a scripture verse are enclosed in square brackets [] and italicized.

    o Additional explanatory notes in the study of a scripture verse are enclosed in square brackets [] and are usually in relation to the Greek or Hebrew texts.

    o A slash in the study of a scripture verse, such as: him/her, indicates an alternative word depending on the context.

    o A dash, such as: go there – to Jerusalem, indicates that a certain word or phrase is particularly important or deserving of extra emphasis.

    o Hyphenated words, such as: used-to-go, indicates that there is only one corresponding word in the Greek text.

    o Non-English words are printed with English letters.

    o I use an initial capital letter for all occurrences of the words Lord and Master when referring to either God or the Lord Jesus Christ due to my respect for them, therefore the reader will need to carefully consider the context of each particular usage to understand to whom that usage refers.

    o Where the word spirit refers to God, I use an initial capital or upper-case S - Spirit. But when the word spirit refers to the gift of holy spirit, etc, I use a small or lower-case s - spirit.

    o Underlined text is used for the English word but when translated from the Greek word alla to show that it implies a strong contrast to that-which has just previously been stated, and/or to strengthen a command.

    o Underlined text is used for the singular form of the word you to distinguish it from the plural form of the word you which is not underlined.

    o Underlined text is also used for emphasis.

    o In order to communicate the fullness of the emphasis when the Greek definite article is repeated both with the noun and its adjective - for example: I Corinthians 15:4 the Greek is te hemera te trite, which literally means the day the third - I translate it as "the day, the third (day)."

    o Verbs in the imperfect tense are translated with the words used-to and then the meaning of the verb.

    o For example: used-to teach indicates that the one teaching spent time teaching, his action of teaching continued during a past time that is now finished for some reason, not that it was a quick one-time occurrence. The one teaching taught others taking time to teach, and he may have repeated his teaching at different times and in different ways. This tense is also used to historically describe past events relating what happened.

    o Verbs in the perfect tense are translated from Greek with a superscript number 2 immediately following the verb - for example: it was written². This tense indicates an action done during a past time and which has a present continuing result, meaning it is still the same at the time the verb was spoken or written. Therefore, this example could be translated as: it was written and continues written.

    o The noun love¹ or the verb to love¹ comes from the Greek word agape which is God’s kind of love.

    When the Biblical writers wrote, there were no punctuation marks, no chapter or verse divisions indicated, etc, as we see them today in many of our English Bible translations and versions. Therefore we must read the whole context of each particular passage of Scripture for thought-content to more clearly understand the truth of what has been written.

    Also, the original language was not English, and therefore when I may write that the writer said or wrote such and such, please understand that the writer actually spoke and wrote in the original language the equivalent to that-which I state in the English language to the best of my knowledge.

    I recommend that while reading this book, you also have your usual Bible and Biblical study materials open, so as to compare verses and gain greater understanding of the truth of God’s Word.

    Introduction to Romans

    The letter (epistle) of Romans was written by Paul, the apostle, to the holy-people (Christians) living in Rome who had received holy spirit-life from God by means of the Lord Jesus Christ. These holy-people included those who were of a Judean/Israeli background and those who were of a Gentile (Greek, other-nation) background.

    Paul may have written this letter in Corinth in the spring of 58 A.D. (refer to Acts 20:1-3) during the reign of Claudius Nero, while the Roman Empire was still in force. He expresses his longing to visit these holy-people for many years in order to help them in their believing and understanding of God’s Word.

    Paul explains the good-message of God which is regarding His son, the Lord Jesus Christ. He teaches the importance of believing that-which God gives us to believe. He shows how any man or any woman can receive the gift of holy spirit which God gives by His grace. He also explains regarding the blessings that all holy-people (Christians) have today, and tells us of the hope we have of the return of Christ and of our future glory together with Christ and with God.

    Chapter 1

    ¹:¹Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, called, an apostle, having been separated² into God’s good-message, .2which He promised-beforehand by means of His prophets in holy writings, .3concerning His son – the (son) having come-into-being from (the) seed of David according to (the) flesh, .4the (son) having been marked-out-definitely (as being) God’s son in ability according to (the) spirit of holiness from (the) resurrection of dead-people – Jesus Christ our Lord, .5by means of whom we received grace and apostleship on behalf of his name with-a-view-to obedience of belief among all the Gentiles, .6among whom you also are called of Jesus Christ –

    .7to all the (people) being in Rome (who are) loved¹ of God, called, holy; grace to you and peace from God our Father and (our) Lord Jesus Christ. .8Firstly indeed I thank my God by means of Jesus Christ concerning all of you because your belief is messaged in the whole world, .9for God is witness of me, to Whom I render-service in my spirit in the good-message of His son, as-that unceasingly I make remembrance to-myself of you .10always on my prayers supplicating if by-some-manner at-some-time I will be prospered already in the intention of God to go towards you,

    .11for I earnestly-long to see you in order that I may sharingly-give to you some spiritual gracious-gift with-a-view-for you to be set-fast, .12and this is: to be encouraged-together among you by means of the belief among one-another both yours and mine.

    .13But I do not intend you to not-know, brothers, that I often purposed to go towards you, and I was hindered continuously-until this-time, in order that I may also have some fruit among you according as also among the remaining Gentiles; .14both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to wise-people and to unmindful-people I am a debtor, .15thus (is) the eagerness according to me to good-message to you also, the (brothers) in Rome;

    .16for I am not ashamed-of the good-message, for it is (the) ability of God into salvation to every-person believing, both to (the) Judean firstly and to (the) Greek, .17for (the) righteousness of God in it is revealed from belief into belief, according as it was written², But the righteous-person from belief will live.

    .18For (the) wrath of God is revealed from heaven on all lack-of-reverence and unrighteousness of men, the (people) holding-down the truth in unrighteousness – .19for-this-reason-that the known-thing of God is manifest among them for God manifested (it) to them, .20for His unseen-things, both His perpetual ability and Godly-quality, are seen-down-on, being mentally-perceived from (the) creation of (the) world by the made-products with-a-view-for them to be without-defense,

    .21for-this-reason-that having known God they did not glorify or thank (Him) as God but they were made-futile in their through-calculations and their without-understanding heart was darkened, .22asserting to be wise they were made-dull .23and they changed the glory of the incorruptible God in (the) likeness of (the) image of corruptible man and birds and quadrupeds and creeping-things.

    .24On-which-account God gave them in the intense-yearnings of their hearts over into uncleanness, their bodies to be dishonored among them, .25the-people-who exchanged the truth of God in the lie and reverenced and rendered-service to the creation against the (One) having created – Who is blessed into the ages, with-certainty.

    .26Because-of-this God gave them over into passions of dishonor, for both their females exchanged the natural use into the (use) against nature .27and likewise also the males having left the natural use of the female were burned-out in their reaching-appetite into one-another, males among males rendering the indecorous-thing to work, and receiving in themselves the recompense which used-to-be necessary (for) their wandering;

    .28and according as they did not approve to have God in full-knowledge, God gave them over into an unapproved mind to do the-things not fitting, .29having been filled² with all unrighteousness, evilness, covetousness, badness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malevolence; whisperers, .30slanderers, God-haters, hurtful-people, arrogant-people, imposters, inventors of bad-things, people-un-persuaded by parents, .31people-without-understanding, un-consenting-people, people-without-affection, unmerciful-people;

    .32the-people-who having fully-known the righteous-action of God – that the (people) practicing the things-of-this-kind are worthy of death – not only do them but also consider-it-good-together with the (people) practicing (them).

    Back to top

    Chapter 2

    ²:¹On-which-account you are without-defense, oh man, every-person judging, for in that-which you judge the different-person you condemn yourself, for you, the (person) judging, practice the same-things. .2But we knew² that the judgment of God is according to truth on the (people) practicing the-things-of-this-kind. .3But do you calculate this, oh man, the (person) judging the (people) practicing the-things-of-this-kind and doing them, that you will escape the judgment of God? .4Or do you despise the wealth of His benevolence and holding-upwards and patience unknowing that the benevolence of God leads you into repentance?

    .5But according to your hardness and unrepentant heart you treasure to yourself wrath in (the) day of wrath and revelation of (the) righteous-judgment of God – .6Who will give-away to each-person according to his works: .7indeed to the (people) seeking-after glory and honor and incorruption according to patient-endurance of good work – eternal life, .8but to the (people) from work-for-ambitious-purposes and being un-persuaded by the truth but being persuaded by unrighteousness – wrath and rage; .9pressure and restraint on every soul of man, the (person) rendering the bad-thing to-work – both (the) Judean firstly and (the) Greek, .10but glory and honor and peace to every-person, the (person) working the good-thing – both (the) Judean firstly and (the) Greek; .11for there is not a reception-of-face with God.

    .12For as-many-as sinned lawlessly, also lawlessly they will destroy-themselves; and as-many-as sinned in law, by means of law they will be judged; .13for not the hearers of law (will be) righteous with God but the doers of law will be made-righteous.

    .14For whenever Gentiles, the (people) not having law by nature, may do the-things of the law, these-people not having law are law to themselves, .15the-people-who point-out the written work of the law in their hearts, their conscience bearing-witness-together, and the calculations accusing or even defending-themselves between one-another – .16in (the) day when God judges the hidden-things of men according to my good-message by means of Christ Jesus.

    .17But if you name Judean on-yourself, and you rest-yourself-upon law, and you boast in God, .18and you know the intention, and you approve the-things differing being resounded from the law, .19and you persuaded² yourself to be a guide of blind-people, a light of the (people) in darkness, .20a trainer of thoughtless-people, a teacher of infants, having the formulation of the knowledge and of the truth in the law –

    .21therefore the (person) teaching a different-person, do you not teach yourself? The (person) heralding-forth not to steal, do you steal? .22The (person) saying not to commit-adultery, do you commit-adultery? The (person) abominating the idols, do you rob-temples? .23You who boast in law, by means of the stepping-aside of the law you dishonor God, .24for the name of God is being blasphemed among the Gentiles because-of you, according as it was written².

    .25For indeed circumcision profits if-ever you may practice law, but if-ever you may be a stepping-aside-person of law your circumcision became² uncircumcision. .26Therefore if-ever the uncircumcision may keep-watch (regarding) the righteous-actions of the law, his uncircumcision will be calculated into circumcision, won’t it? – (yes), .27and the uncircumcision from nature completing the law will judge you, the stepping-aside-person of law by means of writing and circumcision.

    .28For the Judean is not in the manifest-thing, nor (is) the circumcision in the manifest-thing in flesh, .29but the Judean (is) in the hidden-thing, and circumcision (is) of heart in spirit not writing, whose praise (is) not from men but from God.

    Back to top

    Chapter 3

    ³:¹Therefore what (is) the exceeding-thing of the Judean, or what (is) the profit of the circumcision? .2Much according to every manner: firstly indeed because they were trusted-with the declared-words of God. .3For what if some-people disbelieved, their unbelief will not render-ineffective the belief of God, will it? – (no) – .4may it not become! But God must become (the) True-One, but every man a liar, according as it was written², So-that ever You may be made-righteous in Your words and You will be-victorious in You judging.

    .5But if our unrighteousness commends (the) righteousness of God, what will we say? God (is) not unrighteous, the (One) carrying the wrath upon (unrighteousness), is He? – (no) – according to man I say (this) – .6may it not become! – since how will God judge the world? .7But if the truth of God in my lie exceeded into His glory, why am I also yet judged as a sinner, .8and not according as we are blasphemed and according as some-people say us to say, that, Let us do the bad-things in order that the good-things may come? – whose judgment is rightly-due.

    .9Therefore what? Are we held-before (other people)? Not altogether, for we charged-with-cause-beforehand both Judeans and Greeks – all to be under sin; .10according as it was written² that, "There is not a righteous-person, not-even one; .11there is not the (person) understanding; there is not the (person) seeking-out God; .12all-people leaned-out, unitedly they were made-useless; there is not the (person) doing benevolence, there is not until one;

    .13their throat (is) a grave having been opened²; they used-deceit with their tongues; (the) emitted-poison of asps (is) under their lips; .14whose mouth is-full of cursing and bitterness; .15their feet (are) sharp to pour-out blood; .16crushing and distress (are) in their ways, .17and they did not know (the) way of peace; .18(the) fear of God is not before their eyes."

    .19But we knew² that as-many-things-as the law says it utters-forth to the (people) in the law, in order that every mouth may be fenced-in and all the world may become under-right-sentence to God, .20for-this-reason-that from works of law all flesh will not be made-righteous before Him, for by means of law (is the) full-knowledge of sin.

    .21But now, without law, (the) righteousness of God was manifested² being witnessed-of by the law and the prophets, .22even (the) righteousness of God by means of belief of Jesus Christ into all the (people) believing – for there is not a distinction, .23for all-people sinned and are-lacking the glory of God – .24being made-righteous free-giftly with His grace by means of the full-redemption, the (full-redemption) in Christ Jesus .25whom God purposed (to be the) propitiatory(-gift), by means of belief, in his blood, into a pointing-out of His righteousness because-of the going-by of the sins having come-to-pass-beforehand² in the holding-upwards of God, .26towards the pointing-out of His righteousness in the present time with-a-view-for Him to be righteous and (the One) making the (person) righteous from belief of Jesus.

    .27Therefore where (is) the boasting? It was shut-out. By means of what-kind-of law? Of the works? No – but by means of (the) law of belief, .28for we calculate a man with belief to be made-righteous without works of law. .29Or (is God) the God of Judeans only – (but He is) also (the God) of Gentiles, isn’t He? Yes, also of Gentiles, ³⁰since-indeed God (is) One (God), Who will make-righteous circumcision from belief and uncircumcision by means of the belief. .31Therefore do we render (the) law ineffective by means of the belief? May it not become! – but we cause (the) law to-stand.

    Back to top

    Chapter 4

    ⁴:¹Therefore what will we say to have found² (regarding) Abraham our father according to flesh? .2For if Abraham was made-righteous from works he has a boast but not towards God; .3for what does the writing say? But Abraham believed God and it was calculated to him into righteousness.

    .4But to the (person) working, the compensation is not calculated according to grace but according to debt; .5but to the (person) not working but believing on the (One) making the not-reverential-person righteous, his belief is calculated into righteousness; .6fully-as also David says (regarding) the happiness of the man to whom God calculates righteousness without works, .7"Happy (are those) whose lawlessnesses were dismissed and whose sins were covered-over; .8happy (is the) adult-male of-whom (the) Lord may never calculate sin."

    .9Therefore (is) this happiness on the circumcision or also on the uncircumcision? For we say the belief was calculated to Abraham into righteousness – .10therefore how was it calculated, being in circumcision or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision but in uncircumcision;

    .11and he received (the) sign of circumcision (which was the) seal of the righteousness of the belief, the (belief) in uncircumcision – with-a-view-for him to be father of all the (people) believing by means of uncircumcision with-a-view-for righteousness to be calculated to them, .12and father of circumcision to the (people) not from circumcision only but even to the (people) walking-in-line-with the footsteps of the belief in uncircumcision of our father Abraham.

    .13For the promise (comes to pass) not by means of law to Abraham or to his seed (for) him to be the inheritor of (the) world but by means of righteousness of belief; .14for if the inheritors (are) from law, the belief was made-empty² and the promise was rendered-ineffective², .15for the law renders wrath to work, but where there is not law neither (is there a) stepping-aside; .16because-of-this, (the inheritors are) from belief, in order that (the promise may come to pass) according to grace, with-a-view-for the promise to be firm to all the seed, not to the (seed) from the law only but even to the (seed) from belief of Abraham who is father of us all –

    .17according as it was written² that, Father of many nations I put² you; before Whom he believed: God, the (One) making-alive the dead-people and calling the-things not being as being; .18who against hope he believed on hope with-a-view-for him to become father of many nations, according to the-thing having been said², Thus will be your seed.

    .19And not having weakened with the belief he mentally-perceived the body of himself having been made-dead² beginning-to-be about a hundred-years, and the process-of-dying of the womb of Sarah; .20but into the promise of God he was not throughly-judged with unbelief but he was enabled with belief having given glory to God .21and having been fully-assured that the (One Who) promised² is able also to do (it) – .22on-which-account it was calculated to him into righteousness.

    .23But it was not written because-of him only that, it was calculated to him, .24but also because-of us to whom it is about to be calculated, to the (people) believing on the (One) having raised-up Jesus our Lord from dead-people .25who was given-over because-of our falling-asides and was raised-up because-of our making-righteous.

    Back to top

    Chapter 5

    ⁵:¹Therefore having been made-righteous from belief we have peace towards God by means of our Lord Jesus Christ, .2by means of whom also we have² the access into this grace in which we stood² and we boast on hope of the glory of God. .3But not only (this), but also we boast in the pressures, having known² that the pressure renders patient-endurance to work, .4and the patient-endurance proof, and the proof hope, .5and the hope does not bring-down-to-shame because the love¹ of God was poured-out² in our hearts by means of holy spirit, the (holy spirit) having been given to us.

    .6For (during) our yet being weak, Christ yet died according to time on behalf of not-reverential-people, .7for with-difficulty on behalf of a righteous-person someone will cause-himself-to-die, for on behalf of the good-person quickly someone also dares to die, .8but God commends the love¹ of Himself into us because Christ died on behalf of us (during) our yet being sinners.

    .9Therefore much rather having been made-righteous now in his blood we will be saved by means of him from the wrath; .10for if being enemies we were reconciled to God by means of the death of His son, much rather having been reconciled we will be saved in his life, .11and not only (this), but also boasting in God by means of our Lord Jesus Christ by means of whom now we received the reconciliation.

    .12Because-of-this: wholly-as by means of one man the sin came into the world and by means of the sin (came) the death – thus also the death came-through into all men on which all-people sinned; .13for continuously-until law sin was in (the) world but sin is not accounted (during there) not being law, .14but the death reigned-as-king from Adam up-until Moses even on the (people) not having sinned on the likeness of the stepping-aside of Adam who is a type of the (one) being about to (come).

    .15But not as the falling-aside thus also the gracious-gift, for if by the falling-aside of the one-person many-people died, much rather the grace of God and the free-gift in grace, the (grace) of the one man – Jesus Christ, exceeded into many-people; .16and not as by means of one-person having sinned (thus also) the free-gift, for indeed the judgment (was) from one (person’s falling-aside) into a condemning-sentence but the gracious-gift (is) from many falling-asides into a righteous-action;

    .17for if by the falling-aside of one-person the death reigned-as-king by means of one-person, much rather the (people) receiving the excess of the grace and of the free-gift of the righteousness will reign-as-king in life by means of the one-person – Jesus Christ.

    .18Therefore consequently as by means of one falling-aside (it passed) into all men into a condemning-sentence, thus also by means of one righteous-action (it passed) into all men into a making-righteous of life; .19for wholly-as by means of the disobedience of the one man many-people were constituted sinners, thus also by means of the obedience of the one-person many-people will be constituted righteous-people.

    .20But law came-in-beside in order that the falling-aside may become more-and-more, but where the sin became more-and-more the grace super-exceeded .21in order that wholly-as the sin reigned-as-king in the death thus also the grace may reign-as-king by means of righteousness into eternal life by means of Jesus Christ our Lord.

    Chapter 6

    ⁶:¹Therefore what will we say? Should we remain-on in the sin in order that grace may become more-and-more? .2May it not become! We the-people-who died to the sin, how may we yet live in it? .3Or do you not-know that as-many (of us) as were baptized into Christ Jesus, we were baptized into his death? .4Therefore we were buried-together with him by means of the baptism into death, in order that wholly-as Christ was raised-up from dead-people by means of the glory of the Father, thus also let us walk in newness of life.

    .5For if we became² planted-together with the likeness of his death but also we will be of the resurrection, .6knowing this that our old man was crucified-together with (him) in order that the body of the sin may be rendered-ineffective for us to no-longer serve-as-slaves to the sin, .7for the (one) having died was made-righteous² from the sin; .8for if we died together with Christ we believe that also we will live-together with him, .9having known² that Christ, having been raised-up from dead-people, no-longer dies – death no-longer is lord of him, .10for the (one who) died he died to the sin once but the (one who) lives he lives to God.

    .11Thus also you must calculate yourselves (to be) dead indeed to the sin but living to God in Christ Jesus. .12Therefore the sin must not reign-as-king in your mortal body with-a-view to obey it, .13neither must you present your limbs (to be) arms of unrighteousness to the sin – but you must present yourselves to God as-though living from dead-people and your limbs (to be) arms of righteousness to God, .14for sin will not be lord of you, for you are not under law but under grace.

    .15Therefore what? Should we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it not become! .16You knew² that to whom you present yourselves slaves into obedience, you are slaves to whom you obey, whether-indeed of sin into death or of obedience into righteousness, don’t you? – (yes.)

    .17But thanks to God because you used-to-be slaves of the sin but you obeyed from (your) heart into that type of teaching you were given-over, .18and having been freed from the sin you were enslaved to the righteousness. .19I say (this) as-a-man because-of the weakness of your flesh; for wholly-as you presented your limbs (to be) slaves to the uncleanness, even to the lawlessness into the lawlessness, thus now you must present your limbs (to be) slaves to the righteousness into holiness, .20for when you used-to-be slaves of the sin you used-to-be freemen to the righteousness.

    .21Therefore, what fruit used you have then on which-things now you are ashamed-of? – for the completion of those-things (is) death. .22But now, having been freed from the sin but having been enslaved to God, you have your fruit into holiness, even the completion (which is) eternal life – .23for the rations of the sin (are) death, but the gracious-gift of God (is) eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    Chapter 7

    ⁷:¹Or do you not-know brothers, I utter-forth to (the brothers) knowing law, that the law is lord of the man on as-much time as he lives? .2For the wife (who is) under-a-husband was bound² by law to (her) living husband, but if-ever the husband may die she was rendered-ineffective² from the law of the husband; .3therefore consequently, (during the) living of the husband she will do-the-business-of an adulteress if-ever she may become to a different adult-male, but if-ever the husband may die she is a free-woman from the law (for) her not to be an adulteress having become to a different adult-male.

    .4So-that, my brothers, you also were put-to-death to the law by means of the body of Christ with-a-view-for you to become to a different (husband), to the (one) having been raised-up from dead-people in order that we may bear-fruit to God; .5for when we used-to-be in the flesh, the sufferings of the sins, the (sufferings) by means of the law, used-to-be caused-to-in-work in our limbs with-a-view to bear-fruit to death, .6but now we have been rendered-ineffective from the law having died in that-which we used-to be-held-down, so-that we serve-as-slaves in newness of spirit and not (in) oldness of writing.

    .7Therefore what will we say? (Is) the law sin? May it not become! – but I did not know the sin except by means of law, for even I had not known the intense-yearning except the law used-to-say, You will not intensely-yearn, .8but the sin having taken a starting-point by means of the commandment rendered every intense-yearning to-work in me, for without law sin (is) dead.

    .9But I used-to-live without law at-some-time, but (after) the commandment having come the sin lived-again and I died; .10and the commandment, the (commandment) into life, this was found to me into death, .11for the sin having taken a starting-point by means of the commandment wholly-deceived me and by means of it killed (me); .12so-that the law indeed (is) holy and the commandment (is) holy and righteous and good.

    .13Therefore (does) the good-thing become death to me? May it not become! – but the sin – in order that sin rendering death to-work to me may be brought-to-light by means of the good-thing, in order that the sin may become sinful according to a super-throw by means of the commandment. .14For we knew² that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshy having been sold² under the sin, .15for that-which I render-to-work I do not know, for that-which I do not intend this I practice but that-which I hate this I do; .16but if that-which I do not intend this I do, I say-together with the law that (it is) beautiful.

    .17But now I no-longer render it to-work but the sin dwelling in me, .18for I knew² that there does not dwell in me, that is in my flesh, a good-thing, for to intend lies-beside me but to render the beautiful-thing to-work (does) not, .19for not that good-thing which I intend I do, but that bad-thing which I do not intend this I practice, .20and if that-which I do not intend this I do, I no-longer render it to-work but the sin dwelling in me.

    .21Consequently I find the law: (when there is) intending by me to do the beautiful-thing that the bad-thing lies-beside me – .22for I delight-together with the law of God according to the inside man – .23but I observe a different law in my limbs serving-as-a-soldier-against the law of my mind and taking me captive
