    Dreamland Castaway is a compilation of poetry in the short-form.

    The book is a rewrite of the compilation 'Dream Cast', one of three compilations, which were rough self-published books for family & friends. It covers the themes that run throughout all of Leigh's work, nature, landscapes, seasons, elements, metaphysical, astronomy, time, cityscapes, technology, transport, perceptions, philosophies and human interactions.

    ‘Dream Cast’ was Leigh's second compilation, Dream is representative of perceptions, beliefs & bias and ‘Cast’ is representative of reality, projections & images. It is a statement on how our perceptions become our reality, and that we continually create these realities, dreams, aspirations for ourselves, yet the catalyst for this creation, our perception, is fallible and evolving.

    The chapters are organised chronologically, with the chapter names being the names Leigh gave to the original notebooks into which the ideas & concepts for each poem were handwritten.

    Leigh's poems are predominately a composition of a particular moment or instant, like a photo or painting of a scene or a feeling in the moment it's felt.

    Leigh was born and lives in Sydney Australia he started writing poetry in the early 1990’s, after writing for over a decade he decided to self-publish for family & friends, three rough edit compilations of his works. The titles of these compilations are representative of the themes that run through his poetry. Leigh's first compilation was ‘Compound Constitute’, which was assembled into two parts, the first part, was organised into chapters based on the themes of the five forms of matter, (air/gas, earth/solid, water/liquid, fire/plasma & ether/life). While the second part, was themed on the circle, which represents matter/elements being bound together into compounds, (time, seasons, landscapes, philosophy, interactions & outcomes). The other two compilations, ‘Dream Cast’ and ‘Circles Upon Circles’, are organised chronologically, with the chapters being the name Leigh gave to the notebooks into which the ideas & concepts for each poem were handwritten. For the compilation ‘Dream Cast’, Dream is representative of perceptions, beliefs & bias and ‘Cast’ is representative of reality, projections & images. It is a statement on how our perceptions become our reality, and that we continually create these realities, dreams, aspirations for ourselves, yet the catalyst for this creation, our perception, is fallible and evolving. For the compilation, ‘Circles Upon Circles’, the title is an acknowledgement that from microscopic to macrocosmic we perceive patterns, shapes, rhythm, cycles and layers that repeat in varying scales, represented by time and change. A few years after publishing the three compilations, Leigh decided to take his work to a public audience, with the release of the ebooks ‘Dreamland Castaway’ and 'Compounds Constitute', these works are a complete rewrite of ‘Dream Cast’ and 'Compound Constitute'. Leigh's latest work is 'Transit Transient'. It is set out like a diary, with the dates the poems were written recorded for each title. Written almost exclusively while travelling on public transport, to and from the author’s place of employment on train trips of about 40minutes duration. Nearly every poem was composed on a single trip, with observational themes for the poems being landscapes, cityscapes, transport, technology, society, nature, seasons, time, transience and human interactions. Leigh presents the above themes and concepts in a short-form poetic style, as a snapshot of a scene or a feeling in the moment it's felt. Additional themes include landscapes, nature, seasons, elements, metaphysical, astronomy, time, cityscapes, technology, transport, perceptions, philosophies and human interactions.

      Frost pearls, glass fringe, windows crystal,

      surfaces, stain silica, hoar pane, tinge,

      dew crackle, cold binge, frozen smitten.

      World Serpent Bones

      Vestibule maw, entrance hewn, dark, yawn hunch,

      cavity carve, cave fracture, mandible, agape flip,

      tunnels scrape, passage gnash, spine, graze bump.

      Womb arch, warrens cover, shaft, confined munch,

      vents draught, marrow dank, ground, slicken slip,

      belly chamber, cavern chisel, gnaw, sternum stump.

      Scallop time, liquid stratify, crust, grind scrunch,

      grotto socket, stone ribbed, granules, erode drip,

      ventricle worn, waterway gnat, duct, decay sump.

      Vaulted vein, ochre oxide, dome, vertebra crunch,

      alcoves nook, corrosion mine, rock, calcify chip,

      hollow leech, sediments clot, gnarl, arthritic lump.

      Influenza Snaps

      Nose chill, blocked glug,

      nostrils, trickle numb, slug.

      Lungs frost, hoarse clutter,

      cough, crackle bark, splutter.

      Breathe bitter, wispy clog,

      sneeze, blasts misting, smog.

      Skin shivers, glacial bite,

      extremities, ice nip, blight.

      Spine tingle, shaken thrill,

      cranium, warmth vent, spill.

      Body tremor, cold twinge,

      fever, sweaty fatigue, singe.

      July Sundown

      Sol blisters, setting cradle,

      below, Terra’s mantle, amber west,

      fuzzy peach, blush, shore edge,

      splashed, grevillea pink, coral crest.

      Sky nimbus, amalgam spill,

      mountains, shadow char, peaks rose,

      powdery ochre, slush, night cusp,

      splattered, waratah wink, cold expose.

      Stars incrust, dusk murk,

      horizon, shivers shade, wintery lung,

      watery violet, brush, darkness lap,

      splintered, blue-gum sink, facet clung.

      Candle Splutters

      Feelings, wax mould, brittle, pool tumble,

      moment, rivulet stumble.

      Altered, emboss distort, gelid tepid, caress,

      memory, lumps compress.

      Senses, pour molten, dimple, cool wrinkle,

      extinguish, mound crinkle.

      Sculpt, flame starved, seal congeal, egress,

      expression, tempers progress.

      Passions, taper melt, flicker, spool drizzle,

      reminiscent, solidify fizzle.

      Wandering, form shape, past cast, impress,

      recollection, hardens digress.

      Foreboding Hung

      Dark plump, cumulonimbus hulk,

      bleak fang, free-fall, vaulted gulp.

      Engulf, horizon stoop, aura grimy,

      obscure blot, gloom plunge, sink.

      Gravity, taper wedge, sky scowl,

      tumult stomp, vapour, pellet slung.

      Clouds slump, gunpowder skulk,

      sooted tear, ashen, shadows pulp.

      Smudge, squat wing, loom stymy,

      night perch, velvet scrunch, slink.

      Porous, topple drape, moist cowl,

      furry froth, compress, aerial clung.

      Winter Green

      Bursting fluff, yellow sunlight huff,

      wattle cuff, squat fissile puff,

      dotted scuff, pom-pom sprinkle buff.

      Flowers brush, ochre sunburst crush,

      banksia lush, spongy thistle mush,

      tubes plush, papier-mache crinkle gush.

      Blossoms lash, ivory sunshine flash,

      eucalypt rash, wink bristle sash,

      tufts tash, party-popper winkle brash.

      Blooms scrape, scarlet sunbeam gape,

      bottlebrush shape, fuzz gristle cape,

      stems nape, pipe-cleaner wrinkle drape.

      tinged, mottle emit, tone accentuate.

      Chromatic, absorb reflect, variance,

      change strobe, present luminescent.

      Rays warp, chemistry dissension,

      imbue, dye stain, tinct eventuate.

      Pigment, depth refract, defiance,

      flashes captured, instant fluorescent.

      Southern Hemisphere Wintered

      Urban shuffle, huddle, cobalt grey,

      chill shades, forebode.

      Sol bubble, puddle, remnant ray,

      northerly ascent, strode.

      Day juggle, muddle, roving beam,

      equatorial pitch, erode.

      Breeze tussle, befuddle, air stream,

      southern, alpine, node.

      Antarctic supple, cuddle, bunt haze,
