    INTRODUCTION

I still remember having the scare of my life while the passenger on a twenty seater commuter plane about thirty years ago. I was returning home from a business trip from a fairly remote area. We experienced such turbulence on that flight that I literally feared that the plane would crash. I was so scared that when the plane made a scheduled half hour stop along the way, I got off, with no intention of getting back on that plane. My plan was to call my wife at home, which was a 90 minute drive from where I was, and ask her to come and pick me up at the airport in that city. But as things turned out, I could not get through, as our home phone line was busy the numerous times I tried. We had two teenagers and one pre-teen at the time, and I figured that one of them was hogging the phone line. This was before the cell phone was in common use, or at least we did not have one. So thirty minutes later, I did not have any choice but to get back on that plane. Would you believe that this last leg of my flight home was as smooth as could be, with no turbulence at all.

Similarly, fifteen years ago while on a transatlantic flight, on a large commercial airliner this time, there was absolutely no turbulence going across, but when coming back three weeks later, I literally thought the plane was going to break apart, due to the turbulence being so severe. The point of mentioning all this is that no one likes turbulence. For one thing it often scares the daylight out of us, and anything which tends to threaten our lives makes us very uncomfortable. For another thing, while the turbulence is being experienced, all normal activities cease. For instance, the cabin crew had to sit down and buckle up, and wait for the turbulence to pass before resuming normal cabin activities, such as looking after the needs of the passengers.

And this gives us a picture of the present situation facing believers in God, Who are followers of His precious Son, Jesus Christ. No matter where one may live in the world, we are experiencing the turbulence of persecution, so that many are in a paralyzed state, as if we were all seated with our seatbelts on, not sure on how to resume a normal life as we once knew it. And what is horribly unfortunate and ironic, is that in America, the one country founded on God’s word and Christian principles, by people who had left their country of origin due to being persecuted, are now, 300 years later, experiencing the same persecution, this time led by the federal government, the very people who are supposed to be protecting our religious liberty, as enshrined in the Constitution! A few years ago, former Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, titled her first book, Going Rogue. But whatever Sarah Palin had in mind by the word rogue, it had nothing to do with anything outside the Constitution and outside the rule of law. However, all three branches of our federal government today, the executive, legislative, and judicial, have all gone rogue, but it is unfortunately outside the framework of the Constitution and often outside the boundaries of the established laws of the land. And this is largely supported by certain elites in society, such as the media and academia.

But my purpose in writing this book is not to talk about the federal government, but rather to offer support and counsel, under God’s guiding Hand, to those who are His children by spiritual birth, and who are waiting for the second coming of God’s precious Son, Jesus Christ. In my third book, which is titled, How We Know For Sure We Are Living In The Last Days!, I put forth Biblical evidence that we are indeed living in the last days of this present age. If there are any believers reading this who are not convinced of this fact, they may want to consult that book as well. For those who are convinced that we are living in the last days of the present church age, this book should be of help in knowing how to go about living out our faith as Christians in these trying times, when believers are not only being fired from their jobs for to being Christians and standing up for their faith, but are even being put to death, as was the case recently with the nine killed at a community college in Roseburg, Oregon.

What should also be mentioned before closing this Introduction is that after completing 21 years of formal education and then spending almost 28 years working in Project Engineering and Management in the Corporate offices of a large utility, God called His servant as a non-denominational evangelist in early 1999 and then sent him out over 3000 miles, away from family and friends, to the place of service God assigned, which is where His servant has been and is still serving Him as evangelist, counselor, author, editor, and publisher. The author is a widower with three adopted children, now married.

A website has been established for the purpose of interacting with readers, which can be found at:

God also led His servant to establish another website specifically for gospel ministry, since the author is an evangelist. That website can be found at:

    http://www.servantofmosthigh.com

And now my prayer is that God will richly bless you as you read this book, and greatly minister to your every need in your life as only God can! To Him be all praise, honor, and glory, with thanksgiving! Amen.

…with God all things are possible.

    Matthew 19:26 in part

    CHAPTER ONE

/ Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?

The best place to start this book is with the foundation. Since it is our faith in God which is being assailed from every direction, then it is critical that we first have our faith firmly anchored in God, for He is the foundation for our faith! Our faith is not in our faith apart from God, but rather is in God, Who is the basis for our faith. In other words, our faith is only as firm as our view and trust of God. For instance, what will give security to the children in a family is knowing and trusting their parents that no matter what happens their parents will be there for them. The same needs to hold true in our view and trust in God our Father! God tells us in His word at Hebrews 11:6 in part, And without faith it is impossible to please Him… This means that it is our faith in God which will carry us through when we are being persecuted for our faith as Christians.

What would be helpful at this point, before returning to speak further about this later in the chapter, is to look at a practical example from the past. After God set aside the people of Israel and made them a representative nation through which He would make Himself known to the rest of the nations of the world, God raised up Moses to lead them out of Egypt, where they
