Yoga Training - A Practical Guide To Master Art of Yoga - Nathan Bellow

Chapter 1. Yoga: Introduction and Origins

Yoga and its great, classical teachings date back some five thousand years. The ancient need for personal freedom and better self-understanding spawned the marriage of physical and mental exercises. Even the word Yoga means: joining or yoking together; it therefore merges the strange physical movements of long, awkward arms and legs, torsos, and heads, with the interior workings of the unconscious and conscious mind. It brings you a way to understand your self on both a physical and mental level.

Classical yoga centers on three main body centers: breathing, meditation, and exercise. Yoga considers the body to be the essential instrument in order to operate in the greater world. Therefore, yoga exercises emphasize pressure on the body’s glandular systems in order to boost overall interior health. Further breathing techniques bring the idea that breath is the essential source of life that churns the main instrument, or the body forward. Therefore, yoga students garner greater breathing control to increase their body and mind functionality. As breath control and body control come together, the yoga student is able to yield a better mind for meditation. Meditation is essential to yield a silent, healed mind: a mind free from everyday
