Dedication

Iridology – A Complete Guide is dedicated to the Light of the Soul shining through the Iris of the Eye.

Appreciations

The birth of the Revised Edition of Iridology – A Complete Guide has been made possible through the contributions of two dedicated passionate co-creators.

Carolyn Oakley has been a constant fun and laughter friend and consultant support, week after week, over more than two years on this project (and twenty years over all other book projects) – co-creating the cover, the book design, formatting, and images, right to the final submission and the completed book with caring skill and sensitivity.

Bonny Casel, my daughter, participated with editing, drawing, offering generous and loving support in the midst of her own creative and very full life.

Gratitude is offered to all those who have touched my heart during thousands of consultations, where I witnessed the light brighten in their eyes as they began to understand their own unique life and body, and become inspired to make efforts toward wellness and healing.

Further gratitude is offered to the many hundreds of students over forty years who were dedicated to dive deeply into Self-Healing based on Naturopathy classes in Iridology, Healing Diets, Herbal Medicine, Flower Essences, Essential Oils, and Reflexology.

With passionate dedication they embarked on embodiment of the teachings as they progressed toward becoming a living example, educator and guide for those seeking health, wellness and healing.

Observing the truth of these teachings manifesting in their lives has proved a well spring of inspiration.

Chapter 10: Iris Colors

Basic Eye Colors

There are three main Iris colors – blue, brown, and mixed brown/ blue. All other Iris colors are the result of a mix of abnormal Iris colors over the basic Iris color. For example, yellow over blue creates green eyes, or tinges of red over blue create violet eyes. Grey eyes display dull hypoactivity and increasing toxins. The Mixed Color Constitutional Type appears as a lighter brown Iris that reveals blue, green or yellow colors emerging in Nerve Rings, and blue/green Iris fibers being revealed in pelvic or other Iris areas.

Iris Landmark Signs Reveal the Iris Print Mandala

The Iridologist’s skill develops in the selection of significant Landmark Signs. Observe the Iris as an overall pattern, then note the main markings that stand out, as well as the shape of the ANW, colors and textures.

Attention is immediately drawn to Landmark Signs. They stand out and create a unique mandala Iris Print. Separate significant markings from the background.

Abnormal colors are inherited, created by internal metabolism, and manifest as a result of external and internal pollution or by ingesting chemicals, drugs, preservatives, poisons and poor foods. This can be confusing if you try to determine exactly what the abnormal color is or where it came from. The complexity of toxic pollution in today’s world makes it almost impossible to separate individual metals, drugs or poisons unless case taking reveals direct exposure or intake. It is more important to progress with eliminative and restorative treatment and facilitate recovery through purifying and strengthening the Eliminative Systems. Reducing exposure to toxins is essential, along with strengthening the Immune System.

Colors reveal valuable information about inherited toxins, nutrition, metabolism, elimination, digestive chemistry, absorption and assimilation of nutrients, and the levels of toxins and degeneration in the body. Our present generation, and that of our parents, ingested a higher level of drugs, minerals, dyes, coal tar products, aspirins and medications than ever before in history. Naturopaths and Iridologists guide natural, non-invasive cleansing and regeneration programs to benefit and future generations.

I have observed that whenever Pigmentation lightens, the person’s behavior and approach to life also change. The most stubborn marks, the last to change, indicate a very deep level of the reversal process. First, the Pigments become diffused like newspaper print with spaces in-between the colors. They may also disappear, although this is rare and requires devotion to purification programs.

In 1977, one of my first clients in England, a primary school music teacher, displayed reddish brown Pigmentation over kidney areas on both Irises. She needed to pass water constantly and experienced extreme sensitivity on Reflexology kidney points. During her training in the School of Natural Medicine in Cambridge, she applied the laws of Natural Therapeutics in her Self-Healing program. Herbs and dietary adjustments resulted in complete disappearance of the Pigmentation and restored normal function to the kidneys. Increased enthusiasm and energy led her to become an Osteopath. In 2013, she travels the world as a educator, specializing in birth trauma.

Pigmentation occurs naturally as hereditary markings, as well as accumulations in degenerative tissue and heterochromia because of heavy metals, poisons, minerals, drugs, chemicals, preservatives, pollution, suppression, inflammation, and because of metabolic enzyme activity, nutritive by-products from water and food, vaccinations, liver, gall bladder, pancreas and kidney dysfunction.

Abnormal colors display over the constitutional pattern, each Iris manifesting its unique patterns. Observe colors, shapes and patterns to determine the Iris Print. Each person’s constitution and inherited tissue and organ weakness determines predisposition towards coloration. For example, a person with weak kidneys may manifest yellow colorations, while someone with a liver weakness may manifest black or brown Pigmentation.

Iris Color Vocabulary

White Iris Colors Appear During Acute Phase

Pain, shock, trauma, inflammation, mucus, discharges, swelling, high temperature, acidity, active elimination, fever, hyperfunction during acute illness phase.

Minerals – Calcium, Magnesium; Vitamins – A, C

Yellow/White Colors Appear During Sub-Acute Phase

Increased hormone, enzyme and digestive activity with active elimination accompanied by fatigue, thirst, low resistance, sensitivity to stress, and difficulty digesting fats.

Minerals – Chlorine, Sulphur; Vitamins – A, D, C

Yellow Kidney-Produced Iris Colors

Kidney disturbances. Aroteroids are not broken down. The acid mechanism of the Digestive System acts as an oxidant and converts Vitamin B into a yellow pigment. Toxins collect. Metabolism slows down.

Minerals – Chlorine, Sulphur; Vitamins – A, D

Grey Colors Appear During Hypoactive Phase

Elimination and metabolism slows down, and is accompanied by low energy, poor immunity, insufficiency of digestive juices and enzymes, atrophy, and low vitality.

Minerals and Vitamins – Complete systemic spectrum, plus colon cleansing, Healing Diets, Herbal Nutrients, Naturopathy treatments, and other natural therapeutic modalities, if the client chooses to pursue cleansing and rejuvenation as a path to health and wellness.

Heterochromia

Heterochromia Colors

The cause of colors produced by major organs are:

• Kidneys – yellow; Pancreas – orange

• Gall Bladder – bright orange

• Liver – brown rust, brown, dark brown, black

1. Yellow ANW suggests fermentive bowels, urinary infections, catarrhal exudations and connective tissue weakness. Yellow spillover from the bowel is caused by sulphur imbalance, and orange-brown by pancreas insufficiency.

2. Grey or yellow around the ANW indicates bacterial infection or staph.

3. Dark Lymph Tophi around the ANW obscures pelvic abscesses, appendicitis and other degenerative conditions.

4. White mucoid ring around the ANW reveals a high level of mucus and catarrh affecting the circulation and absorption zones.

5. Dark brown color around the ANW is caused by liver insufficiency and accumulated toxins. This indicates sluggish, insufficient function and poor absorption and distribution of nutrients. A blue Iris may display a dark brown digestive Central Heterochromia.

6. Dark brown, radiating in the liver gall bladder Iris area, indicates a poorly functioning liver that reacts to fried foods and fats.

ANW Heterochromia

The ANW and the absorption zone directly outside the bowel walls on the Iris may manifest in a different color than the Iris color, such as grey, yellow, orange, rust-brown, or dark brown that signifies specific organ insufficiency. Purification diets and bowel cleansing help to eliminate the cause of the toxic color. As treatment progresses, the inner ecology returns to normal function, the Iris area clears and the murky, cloudy, abnormal colors become less intense or disappear altogether.

Central Heterochromia

Central Heterachromia dark coloration covers the entire digestive zone, and includes the Pupil Ring, Stomach Ring, and Bowel Ring within the ANW in a different color from the basic Iris color, appearing dark murky grey, yellow, orange, ochre or in varying shades of brown to black. In a brown Iris, it will manifest as a darker or blacker shade of brown. CH is a hereditary Genotype marking, as well as a Phenotype if toxicity accumulates due to insufficient digestion and elimination.

Sectoral Heterochromia

Extending from the ANW outward, a Sectoral Heterochromia roughly covers a gland, organ or body segment, displaying the inhibition of basic functions relating to the body area of the Iris sign.

When a student or client displays a Sectoral Heterochromia over the Liver area, there is a tendency to fits of impatience and anger.

Complete Sectoral Heterochromia

This pattern extends all the away from the Pupil Ring to the Iris Ring where it meets the Sclera, covering either a complete organ, gland or body area. This diminishes normal function and increases susceptibility to aggravations and the progression of chronic conditions. It influences the psychological and emotional life related to the body area.

Pupil Ring or Stomach Ring Heterochromia

The Central Heterochromia may extend from the Pupil Ring to the Stomach Ring, in yellow, orange, rust, brown or black colors, suggesting impaired digestive function. Note the color and relate to the appropriate organs.

Causes of Heterochromia Colors

1. Yellow Central Heterochromia is caused by sulphur accumulation and kidney and adrenal problems.

2. Orange Central Heterochromia is caused by pancreas insufficiency.

3. Orange mucoid Heterochromia around the bowel is a result of poor liver and bowel function including pancreas malfunction.

4. Bright orange is specifically related to gall bladder malfunction.

5. Browns and blacks relate to liver malfunction and blood toxicity.

6. Dark grey indicates the first stages of digestive malfunction.

Pigments & Pigmentation

Pigments are hereditary irregular markings of scattered color on the top of Iris Fibers. Early Iridologist considered inherited Pigments as Miasms or taints from ancestral disease. We are still learning about these markings as their interpretation and effect can vary greatly from person to person. They appear haphazardly scattered on various parts of the Iris. If they settle on an Iris organ area, this indicates physicial weakness, insufficiency and inhibition of function, and it has been proven that emotional and mental imbalances also occur.

Early Iridologists believed Pigments appeared in the Iris after suppressive treatment, followed by more serious illnesses appearing at a later date. Pigments helped them recognize the long-term harmful influence of inorganic drugs and medicines, as they observed and catalogued the markings on the Iris in relation to coal tar products, mercury, sulphur, quinine, and iodine used previously on their patients, and changes due to increased pollution and the use of processed foods.

Some modern Iridologists wish to dispense with the theory of drug accumulation, and describe Pigments as enzyme disturbances that cause organ and cell damage.

In the 19th century, Nils Liljequist saw his own Irises turn green from quinine and develop red spots after the intake of iron. My own Irises developed reddish brown markings in my Digestive System area after iron supplementation when I was a teenager. Abnormal colorations occur due to inorganic substances settling in tissues along with chemical and enzyme processes of toxic accumulation and external environmental poisons. During my healing purification in the seventies in California, my hazel Irises turned blue, as markings from years of iron supplements for anemia cleared from my body.

Drugs, inorganic minerals, chemicals and poisons affect the entire inner ecology. While Pigments may appear more strongly in one part of the eye or another, toxins and poisons collect in the other weak areas of the body and influence all body functions.

Both genetic weaknesses and the effects of toxic drug and chemical deposits are passed on to the next generation. These combined weaknesses makes it difficult for the body to throw off toxins, therefore it attracts further accumulation and the Iris area related to that part of the body becomes darker as aging and disease progress.

Iris Changes

Clearly the Iris changes as we age, as is evident whenever we look in the eyes of the elderly, and we also have proven that the Iris changes in reverse as an response to appropriate Natural Therapeutic purification and regeneration programs.

Theories of Pigments & Pigmentation

Hahneman’s Theories on Pigments & Pigmentation

Hahnemann, the founder and father of Homeopathy, used the Greek work Psora, meaning itch, as itches most often accompany skin diseases. Miasms were named by Hahnemann as Psora, Sycosis Gonorrhea and Syphilis. Early Iridologists, observing Iris Pigmentation, gave the name Psora to these markings.

Dr. Henry Lindlahr’s Theories on Pigments & Pigmentation

Dr. Lindlahr claims that the greater part of chronic diseases had their origin in hereditary miasms, and that many acute diseases are merely external manifestations of these internal latent, chronic taints.

"…age-long persistent suppression of itchy, puristic skin eruptions, and of gonorrheal and syphilitic diseases, have encumbered ‘civilized’ humanity with three well-defined hereditary taints or miasms." — Lindlahr

The Iris signs that indicate hereditary Miasms are:

• Pigmentation or Psora Spots

• Darkening of the Iris color

• Darkening and thickening of the Scurf Ring

He also believed that the darkness and width of the Scurf Ring in a child is an indication of the level of Psora taints they inherited. Childhood diseases are considered an attempt to throw off inherited Miasmic taints. Unfortunately, suppressive medical treatment drives these conditions deeper, causing the foundation of chronic disease. The use of correct diet as well as working with the body’s eliminative functions from an early age, would ensure good health and prevention of further and deeper taints.

Pigmentation spots, not usually seen in newborn infants, appear around seven years old, at the time that children suffer childhood diseases, and were therefore associated with the Psora Miasms by earlier Iridologists and Naturopaths.

Now, in the Rayid Model, they are indicative of the development of acute mental abilities of observation, organization, verbal expression and visual learning skills and related to the development of increasing mental capacities around seven years of age.

Dr. J. Haskel Kritzer’s Theories on Pigments & Pigmentation

Dr. Kritzer’s named Pigments, Zymoid Spots, based on the medical meaning of Zymoid as ‘any poison derived from a decaying tissue,’ and believed Zymoid accumulations were eliminated through boils and carbuncles.

In the Iris, Pigments most often display as black or muddy brown spots on the superficial layer on the surface of the Iris that look like a speck of dirt or dust. Zymoid Spots may be congenital, hereditary or acquired. They may be found anywhere in the Iris, as they occur in any part or area of lowered vitality.

"Zymoid spots may often indicate effects of suppressed measles, scarlet fever, smallpox, various skin diseases, and lice infestation, as well as depositions of toxins resulting from putrid tissues such as boils, carbuncles, fistulae, abcesses, cysts, necrosis (all forms of dead tissue), and also vaccines and serums." — Kritzer

Dr. Kritzer claimed Itch Spots or Psora Spots were misleading. After informing us that Peczeley was the first to discover and interpret these spots as suppressed scabies, Dr. Kritzer describes how he discovered they also indicate other suppressed external conditions and local hereditary encumbrances. Further, he claims
