About this ebook

An awe-inspiring book about a goddess of girl power in the business world: a sophisticated young five-foot-one-inch sexy blue eyed brunette named Jenna Vanchetta who uses her looks, personality, money and success to always get the job done; through her manipulative and calculating methods she builds herself a business empire that everyone wants a piece of.

Jenna Vanchetta is one of the wealthiest 27-year-old entrepreneurs living in the United States; with over 800 successful patents she is considered the modern day Thomas Edison. She goes through the motions of building her empire with one invention of her own but then takes credit for hundreds of other’s ideas, building a company that uses her brand name to patent inventions and giving only a small portion of percent to the person who had actually created it. Though she prepares herself to be ready to handle anything that comes her way, she gets caught up in a couple of her lies and needs her long-time army boyfriend to help her out of a situation. Jenna’s passionately in love with him even though they have some different priorities; she may screw everyone else over, but her boyfriend is the one person she truly appreciates and cares about in her life. She gets into trouble when one of her workers comes up with an idea that makes millions and she steals the idea by leading him on with her good looks and charming personality. When he finds out the truth after she leads him on she decides she wants to cut him loose by firing him and just giving him the small percent of his patent’s profits, as specified in his contract, but that plan backfires and Jenna finds out that money can’t take care of every problem. As she gets too comfortable in her surroundings and the money starts to get to her it leaves her with a kill or be killed mentality; nevertheless, she remains a true romantic at heart.

    Chapter 1: Nostalgia

Jenna’s boyfriend Mike is taking on heavy submachine gun fire at a war front in Afghanistan, running through a field as the bullets fly by him. He and another soldier take cover behind a pickup truck, the gunfire ricocheting off the dust at their feet. Mike shoots and kills two terrorists, then waits to see if the coast is clear. His friend gets up first and walks away from the car when suddenly another terrorist throws a grenade out of the blue. Mike screams Grenade! but it’s too late: the grenade explodes, killing his friend right next to him. Mike jumps up away from the truck and kills the now unarmed terrorist.

Jenna, at the time, is on a talk show on TV. How does it feel to have over a hundred successful patents? Cliff Avery, the reporter, asks her.

I could probably retire at twenty-seven, says Jenna, go public with my company and sell off some shares, but if I did that I would be denying my colleagues work. I’m satisfied with what I’ve done. It’s never all about me though. I would like to help out the community eventually as I continue to grow this company.

A backstage person comes out and says they’re going to commercial, and some more attendants jump out to fix Cliff’s makeup. I’m glad that’s over, he says. So what are you doing tonight?

None of your business. Let’s keep this professional. If that’s your silly way of asking me out on a date you should know better. You’re an idiot; just because I saw you at that investor fundraiser and we exchanged numbers a long time ago doesn’t mean we’re friends. You’re lucky I even did this interview. I’m not some stupid celebrity that needs all the attention. In fact I would rather no one even knew my name.

Jenna laughs in an evil way, and Cliff looks at her weird. I heard you’re a fraud, and I can tell you’re bipolar.

No, I just know who you are. You want to get in every girl’s pants and you don’t think they know that. You take yourself so seriously as a smart, educated guy, but deep down you’re simple-minded.

Well, Jenna, at least I’m not a fake conniving bitch like you are.

Jenna stands up. Fred Portland! Your boss’s boss. He’s an investor with my company. You just lost your job. She doesn’t say another word as she gathers her things to leave. When she gets outside the building a black limo pulls up and she gets in. In the limo she gets a call from one of her sales men.

I got Mr. Paterson on the hook, he says he’s iffy about the percent we’re giving him for his patent.

Jenna closes the partition and says, Okay, I’m coming in now. I’ll straighten him out. Then she hangs up her phone.

Jenna gets to her office, which takes up two floors and houses over a hundred people. There’s a sales floor as well as separate offices. She walks into an office.

Mr. Paterson, she says, I’m glad you’re here, nice to meet you. I’m Jenna Vanchetta. How’s Greg treating you?

Not very well, says Mr. Paterson. He only wants to give me five percent of the profit of the patent.

Do you know what five percent of fifty million is?

    I don’t know. A lot.

It’s two point five million. All we take is one initial ten thousand dollar investment from you and we’ll put three million dollars into your invention.

I already have three inventions that have made me over sixty million.

Let me see if I can find a little more room in the percentage then. You have to realize that your patent might not be successful; we’re the ones taking the risk. Our rate is seventy-nine percent of successful patents. I have investors lined up ready to put their money in to your idea. Ninety-nine percent of the time one person with one patent never has the resources to make himself successful. I’m gonna see if I can give you a better deal. No promises though; I have to weigh everything out. Greg, show Mr. Paterson around our office. Bring him down stairs to the food court.

Okay Mr. Paterson, says Greg, come with me.

They go downstairs to the sales floor and Greg points to a group of twenty people sitting in cubicles. This is where we find us the investors who invest thirty percent of the money for their inventions and we cover the rest, leaving us in full control of the patented invention. Greg knocks on an office door with a plaque that says VP. This is the vice president’s office. Bill, you in there?

Yeah, I’m busy, come back later.

Greg tells Mr. Paterson to give him a second and then walks in the office. Bill, I got a client here, Mr. Paterson. Can you come out and just give him a handshake so he feels more comfortable? Solid this guy up for me please.

Bill opens the door and thrusts out his hand. Hi Mr. Paterson, I’ve heard great things about you. Your idea is genius.

I hope so, says Mr. Paterson. I don’t like the small percentage your company’s offering.

I know it all sounds confusing, but the percentages we give our clients are far from small. We’re dealing with millions of dollars. Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up. Most people never wait to see how it all works out. We take your idea and make it real rather than just a dream. Greg, did you show him our food court?

    Greg shakes his head no.

Okay, go down stairs to the left and you’ll see it. We have sandwiches, coffee, doughnuts, tea – check it out, it’s all complimentary.

Mr. Paterson says okay and they both leave the office and go to the food court. There are two TVs on each side of the wall and long rows of tables filled with office workers.

Nice place we have here, right? says Greg. They just put the food court in last year. He walks over to a woman serving skirt steak on a plate and makes an encouraging motion. Try this. Skirt steak. It’s delicious.

I’m not hungry, says Mr. Paterson, making himself a coffee. I want to go back and negotiate some more.

Well at least take a dessert with you to go. Greg opens a refrigerator and hands him a strawberry shortcake in a plastic container, then takes him back to Jenna’s office and walks away.

Mr. Paterson sits down in a chair in front of Jenna’s desk.

I see you got the strawberry shortcake, says Jenna. It’s to die for.

Greg made me take it. I’m never hungry when I have to negotiate something.

Then take it home for later. Jenna gets up and walks around her desk to where Mr. Paterson is sitting. She sits up on the desk close to him and makes sure her legs are showing through her dress. Six point five percent, she says, and she hands him the contract and a pen. Mr. Paterson signs it. Thanks for your vote of confidence. You should know we turn most people’s ideas down. You’re lucky to get this opportunity. Here’s my personal cellphone number, she says, grabbing a sticky pad. You can reach me at any time if I’m not here.

You got it, says Mr. Paterson eagerly, and he gets up and leaves.

Jenna comes out of the office and calls for Greg. He goes into the office Jenna tells him to shut the door.

Did you get it? he says.

Of course I did. Do I have to do everything for you? You need to become more creative and manipulative. You’re lucky I don’t cut you out of this deal entirely. I’m leaving early for a meeting so transfer all my calls to the secretary. Jenna grabs her spring coat off her chair and throws it around her, leaves the office and locks it but then turns back and opens up the door again. She puts the phone on speaker and goes through the top drawer in her desk and finds a little piece of paper with a phone number on it.

Hey Fred, she says, it’s Jenny.

Hey Jenny, how was the interview?

Not so good. Cliff called me a conniving bitch.

Really? He’s crazy. He probably didn’t mean it. He goes off sometimes.

I don’t care. He’s a mean horrible young man and I want him fired! I know he has a big following but I don’t care. Lose him or lose the money you’re making with me. She slams the phone down and leaves the office and Ron, a cubicle worker, asks if everything is ok. I’m fine, she snaps. Get to work, you haven’t done anything all week.

She leaves the office and drives away in her pink Ferrari, cruises down the highway back to her mansion. She walks in and finds her butler vacuuming.

Hannah can you stop vacuuming? I don’t want to hear it. I had a long day. She falls back into a chair. Can you get me a white wine from the cellar?

    Which one? says Hannah.

The one on top in the middle row.

The butler brings out a glass and serves Jenna, then asks her if she should start dinner.

Yeah, make salmon tonight with the green beans and rice.

The butler goes to make the food and Jenna reaches over to grab the cordless phone on the end table. She dials a number and when someone picks up she asks to speak with Sergeant Comer.

Let me see if he’s still at this base, says the person on the other end. It goes silent, and then Jenna feels the presence of someone else on the phone.

    Mike, is that you?

Hey you, he says. I miss you so much.

    How are you?

    I’m still breathing.

Oh, don’t talk like that. I’m worried about you. I think about you every night.

I’m more than fine. They brought a comedian to the base tonight from Chicago. I’ll be stationed at the base for a couple weeks. There’s nothing to worry about, babe. To tell you the truth you’re the only thing I think about. This last tour makes me realize what’s important in life. I want to get you an engagement ring when I get back home.

Aw, you’re so sweet. You’re the only person I truly love in this world.

What’s not to love? says Mike, laughing. I saw you on TV this morning. Your interview was great.

Did you get the stuff I sent you? The razors and the magazines?

Yeah, I did. So how’s work been?

"I can’t complain. It runs itself. I planned a vacation in Hawaii for the two of us when you come back in a couple months.

Okay, great. But right now I gotta go to this comedy show. It’s the only form of entertainment I’ve had in months. Talk to you soon. I love you Jen.

I love you too honey. Have a good night.

Jenna puts the phone down and she gets up to go to the kitchen, asks Hannah if the food is ready.

Yes, says Hannah, it’s coming out of the oven now. Go to the dining room. The table is set.

Jenna takes her place at the long dining room table, big enough to seat fifteen people comfortable. She waits to be served and begins to eat while Hannah goes back to the kitchen. Just as she leaves the room Jenna screams her name and she runs back in.

Can you eat with me tonight? she says.

Yes, thank you, I will, says Hannah.

Go grab a plate and some silverware.

She does so, and sits down to eat with Jenna. Jenna, after a moment, puts her fork down and stops eating.

Hannah, have you ever thought about what’s actually worth doing? Sometimes I think I don’t want to be part of anything. Everyone is looking for some sort of control or entitlement these days. All I want sometimes is just to let go and be free, but I’m afraid someone will take my position if I decided to stop everything.

Jenna, you’re a beautiful, wealthy girl. Everyone gets stuck in their own head from time to time. Your perception is strong, that’s all. Sometimes you see and deal with things that are true but not real. Be happy with who you are.

    "You’re right, I should.
