About this ebook
This story takes place in a world of magic with no zombies or ghouls, no vampires or werewolves, no dragons or giants, no ogres or trolls, and no goblins or elves. A world where only people with the mage gene can wield magic. If you travel to this world and arrive in the United Kingdom in the early years of the twenty-first century, you may encounter Jennifer Bauer.
Jennifer Bauer nearly dies after capturing the last of the evil sociopathic mages who had tortured and murdered young women and men. She becomes famous among mages, but that is not a blessing. UK mages know that her new powers include identifying and disabling criminals from a distance. The Free Mage Movement has grandiose plans to overthrow the mage government and then the government of the United Kingdom. The FMM’s leaders fear that Jennifer will capture them. They make a desperate attempt to protect themselves by kidnapping Jennifer’s apprentice, Lahni Kurban, and her younger brother Greg. Jennifer and Lahni have powers beyond what the FMM leaders expect. Lahni incapacitates the kidnappers and escapes with her brother. Jennifer unearths the FMM leaders who now plan to assassinate Jennifer and Lahni. Jennifer captures all the revolutionaries in three days. Again, Jennifer learns that no good deed goes unpunished. Now that the sociopathic murderers and violent revolutionaries are safely in prison, the three mage media outlets believe Jennifer should be cut down to size. The smear campaign works—most mages believe that there wasn’t a revolution and that Jennifer abused her powers. Some want Jennifer imprisoned, and some want to force Lahni to be apprenticed to a different master. Jennifer must bear another burden. She discovers that some mages want to assassinate her just because she’s powerful. Jennifer copes with these problems.
Dave, one of the three apprentices cursed by Master Cruptor, did not seek treatment when the nightmares worsened, and he went insane. Jennifer seeks treatment for her curse nightmare, but no mage doctors in the UK know of a cure for this rare type of curse. A UK doctor of magic finds a Ukrainian doctor of magic who created a cure. Unfortunately, in Jennifer’s case, the treatment requires her to be burned for real. She completes the therapy with the help of her friend Jason, but she discovers that a fragment of the curse remains. The fragment anchored itself to Jennifer’s strong anger at people who sit by while evil appears among them. Jennifer cannot release her anger because of the bad things that happened to the people she loves. The fragment of the curse grows, and Jennifer’s life is in jeopardy.
Not all is bleak and discouraging in Jennifer’s life. She receives love and support from her parents. She loves Lahni like a sister and has become a member of the Kurban family. She and Lahni often visit a group home with four orphans. They also visit elderly hospital patients to cheer them up and help them save lives when they die by donating their remaining lifeforce. Jennifer and Lahni also study souls, lifebinder, and lifeforce; the factor needed for life and for magic.
Jennifer and Lahni expand their powers. They soon are able to read thoughts and memories. They learn to send memories to others. One evening, Lahni stops moving and speaking. She hears the soul of Sarah, Jennifer’s best friend who had been murdered a year ago. Sarah brings Jennifer into the conversation, and Jennifer immediately screams in rage—she knows that Sarah will request something that will harm Lahni. Sarah tells Jennifer and Lahni of a problem that will cause the extinction of mankind if not fixed. Fixing the problem requires great sacrifices from Jennifer and greater sacrifices from Lahni. Lahni has less than six months to strengthen her soul and develop new magic. Twelve-year-old Lahni just started puberty, but an important factor in strengthening her soul is to become pregnant.
