      Waiting Game

      Teegan falls asleep on the bed with me holding her hand. I feel anxious, nervous, and scarred. I want to help her I want to find out who this guy is and why he attacked her. I watch as her chest rises and falls with each breath, I am so confused about this whole wolf thing.

      Removing my hand I sneak out of her room leaving her to get some sleep. Smelling coffee I walk into the kitchen,

      Hi dad how’s the head? I laugh at him.

      Yeah better today I am not twenty anymore, he groans.

      Nope you’re not, I smile at him filling up my cup and joining him at the table, have you heard from mom? I ask.

      She called me yesterday, he answers staring out of the window.

      I left her a voicemail and she still hasn’t answered me or called me back, I complain, why she would have called dad and not me.

      So dad says turning to face me, how is it going with Asher? his question shocks me a little because I wasn’t even thinking about him for a change.

      Oh he is gone camping for a while.

      Really and you didn’t want to go? he asks.

      Wasn’t invited dad, he looks at me skeptically then frowns.

      That’s not like him are you sure? he asks, finding it hard to believe that Asher wouldn’t invite me away with him.

      Positive dad he took another girl with him, Brandy and Devlin.

      I’m sorry Emery, I really thought he was better than that dad sighs turning his gaze out onto the street where, Asher’s house, sits opposite ours.

      We both watch the street and my thoughts turn to Asher, his blonde hair and chiseled jaw. Every cell in my body misses him with an ache unlike anything I have ever felt before. Sighing I get up to refill our cups my dad grasps my wrist as I stand,

      Don’t worry Emery you will find someone amazing. He says then lets my hand go.

      Thanks dad but I don’t want anyone else.

      I reply with a small voice, betraying my emotions. I refill our cups and take mine out to the back patio, sending my mom a text asking her to call me. I contemplate asking my dad if knows about our family history but something tells me to wait until my mom calls me back, hopefully she does it soon.

      My day is spent sitting out here avoiding life, avoiding the pain in my heart and the gaping hole in my life that Asher Carter should be filling.

      Hey Em, Teegan whispers as she sits down in the chair beside me, her face is still pale and she seems worn out.

      You want me you make you something to eat? I ask standing up.

      Yeah if you don’t mind, I need to get my strength back she sighs and closes her eyes again. Grabbing the eggs and bacon I make her a plate and add toast too, walking back outside she sits up taking it from me.

      Thanks Emery, she smiles before digging in.

      Are you in pain? I ask trying to see the bite marks on her neck but her hair covers them.

      No, the bites will heal quickly, our blood helps to heal wounds fast but the fight drained me, I train like crazy to be fit and healthy but he took me by surprise. She shakes her head clearly annoyed.

      Shouldn’t you tell someone, like your dad maybe? I suggest thinking it might be a good idea.

      No he will make me come home and I don’t want too, I can’t leave you alone unprotected.

      I’m not alone I have my parents and Asher, I explain but she refuses to listen.

      No Emery, you had Asher – sorry to sound like a bitch but right now he is off humping some chick, while a wolf roams the streets looking to make one of us his mate and by force.

      I want to slap her for saying that about Asher but she is right, he is away with someone else and he is a guy, shaking my head I refuse to go there. I do not want to think about him having sex with Emily Ann, my stomach rolls at that.

      So how do we find this wolf? I ask changing the subject.

      Not sure but we have to be careful about it. She replies finishing her food and sitting back against the chair.

      Nothing is normal anymore, life has taken a serious one eighty sending what I thought was my reality, into a downward spiral.
