About this ebook

An adventurer comes to Withrow Key, planning to live on the bottom of the ocean for six months in a habitat, but he needs Jackson’s help to make it happen. They have their inevitable problems, but things seem to be working fine. Until a late-season hurricane pops up in the gulf and Withrow Key is expecting a direct hit. Jackson and his nephew Zach have to decide whether to let the aquanauts ride the storm out under the water or to rescue them and let them try it again later. As usual, nothing is ever simple on Withrow Key.

    About the Author

    Chapter 1

Call me Huck, the burly man, sticking out his hand. I don’t stand on a lot of formality. If we’re going to work together, I want us to be friends. I mean, you don’t trust your life to strangers, right?

Jackson Pauley was a touch off balance because of his visitor’s brusque entrance, but the man’s disarming manner eased his irritation some. Too, it was the Florida Keys and Jackson was used to things moving a little differently here than in his native New York. There, he never would have burst into someone’s office and started talking. He would have gotten shot. Or worse. Huck had walked into Jackson’s office unannounced. Or at least Jackson hadn’t seen him coming…admittedly he had been face down in paper work.

Huck? Is that like Huck Finn?

I don’t exactly remember how I got the name, but Huck Finn was an adventurer, so I guess it fits.

All right, Huck. How can I help you? Jackson asked as he stood from behind his paper-littered desk at the dive shop to shake the man’s hand. Like every small business owner in the world, managing the business was his least favorite part of the job and he was happy to take a break.

I’m here to change the world, but I need your help to do it, Huck said with a grin.

Jackson sat back down and leaned back in his chair. He ran his fingers through his sandy blond, curly hair while he took stock of his visitor. Huck was broad-shouldered with a tan and an easy smile. He looked fit in his polo shirt, shorts and sandals—island business attire. Huck looked like he fit right in on Withrow Key. Oddly, this was the first time Jackson had ever seen him.

Well, you certainly have an interesting approach. Why don’t you tell me what you need and I’ll see what I can do, Jackson replied. He had seen more than his fair share of dreamers with plans and he knew better than to get too excited until the check cleared the bank.

One of the greatest problems our world is facing is overcrowding, Huck began. There just isn’t enough space for all of us on this planet of ours…at least not any place you would want to live. Huck’s presentation was polished. Jackson could tell he had practiced
