There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight.

    FORWARD

    C. S. LEWIS OFFERED NO AUTHENTICATION for the correspondence between evil spirits (which he called The Screwtape Letters) that fell into his hands and none will be offered here.  The notes and correspondence that follow may be revelatory to some, but contain no secrets, nor information not available to any soul willing to take the time to consider realities on both sides of our physical boundaries. The information that follows did not come by any means of divine intervention and it is far from sacred in nature, except in the respect that all truth is as honored above as it is abhorred below. The reader is free to make his or her own decision regarding the truth, but remember that this is a grave responsibility; the truth will hold us accountable regardless of how we view it. Truth and perspective open the door to insight.  The wider the door is opened the greater will be the insight and one’s ability to cross the threshold of enlightenment.  But, these papers were never intended for our enlightenment. The author(s) never intended them to fall into mortal hands. They present a perspective that may be new to some and may even shed new light regarding the human condition.

Awareness of self is the grandest of all enlightenment.  Indeed, without it, the grandeur of truth is rendered mere information, to which interest and indifference have equal claim.

Evil spirits or devils, like mortals, require no sanction for their existence and go on living, if it can be called that, with or without humanity’s nod.  Admittedly, there are mortals who claim a singular enlightenment that authorizes them to dismiss the existence of the inhabitants of a dark world.  They do this for a variety of reasons, which, when analyzed, often reveal motives void of merit and which are entirely self-serving.  Satan takes a rather dispassionate delight in these non-believers, as they generally show the same regard toward their maker.  Since their adopted opinions are based solely in things as they wish them to be rather than as they truly are, they lack the ability to help or hinder in either cause.

There is an arrogance about humanity that traps it within its own puny existence.  Few mortals seriously consider, except as possibilities, life and existence in dimensions beyond the view of mortal eyes. When the possibilities are considered they range from fantasy to divine, from supernatural to ridiculous, fact and fiction.  The purpose of this treatise is not to discuss the possibility of the existence of spirits, but to discuss to some extent the nature of their existence.

People in general have a hard time understanding other people and things outside of their immediate awareness and so they lump them, in groups not meant to be fully understood. They might say, It’s the economy, she’s a politician or he’s a Christian or non-Christian etc.  Things and people, especially people, get lumped into a vague sameness that doesn’t require understanding; the label is enough.  This couldn’t be truer when it comes to hell and the spirits residing there; they are simply devils to those willing to consider them in the first place.  But, are we justified in thinking that all devils are poured from the same slime? How does a devil become a devil?  Do they all want to be devils?  Do they enjoy their work?  So many questions......
