    Life in the Midwest isn't everything it appears to be on the surface as Harken comes to understand his life is not like his friends home lives. Book One takes us inside the world of a talented and beguiling young man growing up in a world where everything is not what is appears. It begins in 1958 with his mother Carlotta, an alcoholic narcissistic lesbian concert pianist in St. Louis when she marries Harken’s father, a pacifist gay minister with a male lover (Uncle John) that lives nearby. They marry to hide their sexuality. Harken enters in 1959 as a pawn in their deception. The more Harken unravels and comprehends, the more suffocating the pressure. As Harken matures and his natural talent as a performer begins to eclipse his mother'’s, she goes to war with him.
