About this ebook

Something inside her, a sixth sense maybe, told Lyla not to go any further. She stood right where she was and tried to listen hard.

"I'm telling you this is not the time!" Danielle seemed to be arguing with someone.
"I know I said that but don't you see how things have turned out!"
"No! No! I never meant it to be this bad."
"Don't you hear me? You will get what I promised to you. Just not straight away. Be patient. I am not running away."

Lyla turned around and almost ran the way she had come.

Family Business?

Dave Calvet.

The popular charismatic son of a multi-millionaire father, is engaged to marry Lyla, who is his complete opposite.

She does not come from money. She’s not charismatic or popular. In fact, the largest crowd she’s had around her was when she was helping her college class mates with math! Clearly, there is something going on with Dave and his family that Lyla cannot quite put a finger on. Is this just how families with money behave? Not sure. All Dave and Lyla know is that they are deeply in love with each other.

Then it happens! Something terrible happens! Something they are not prepared for.

With one swift blow, Dave and Lyla’s lives are toppled over and it doesn’t stop there.

Is it just coincidence or intentional?

    Chapter 1

Lyla twirled a lock of hair around her finger while her other hand was tapping a pen impatiently on the table. A beautiful princess cut diamond ring glittered on her finger. She had been racking her brains against this problem for at least two hours now, and the solution was not coming to her.

Ever since she had been a little girl, Lyla had been exceptionally good at mathematics. The whole class would flock around her for guidance before a math exam. Her innate talent was the reason that she had won a college scholarship for a mathematics major. However, despite being a natural genius at it, this final year at college was giving her a hard time. Concepts were tougher; problems were lengthier, and their applications were confusing. She was struggling to get by the classes on a daily basis.

Though, despite her troubles in academics, Lyla's life was as perfect as it could be. The glittering ring on her finger was proof of that. She was recently engaged and naturally on cloud nine.

She had met her fiancé Dave at the college. He was a marketing major and heir to a multi-million fast food chain.

Lyla subconsciously began to twirl the ring on her finger as she thought about Dave. She clearly remembered her initial days at college. He was the popular guy, always surrounded by a bunch of pretty, cookie cutter girls and some admiring boys. She had looked from the outside and smirked on the inside. It had seemed absurd to her, that all the so-called cream of the nation flocked around a rich, spoilt brat.

There was no room for Lyla in his clique. She came from a middle class background. She did not flaunt designer
