About this ebook
In the devotional tradition of The Imitation of Christ, Becket’s Be Like Christ offers readers meditations inspired by inner locutions from contemplative prayer. Written in an honest and conversational voice, God, who is identified throughout the text as Unending Unfailing Love, speaks directly to the reader, enjoining a life lived according to the Law of Love. From the Eternal Heart to the heart of a person following the Way, the Truth, and the Life along the narrow way of discipleship, Be Like Christ can be read as daily inspirational messages for the soul who needs a deeper relationship with God.

Becket has a BA in music composition, an MA in Systematic Theology, and an MS in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. He was a Benedictine monk for many years. For the last nine years, he has worked as Anne Rice’s assistant, and has spent that time learning from her.

Be Like Christ - Becket
INTRODUCTION
As a man of prayer, I have had a long practice of praying in different ways. Sometimes it is ritualized with written formula, other times it is simply praying the Psalms or other parts of Scriptures, but many times throughout the course of the day my prayer is a conversation with God. While I do not claim to hear God’s voice the way John the Baptist did at Jesus’ baptism, or the way the Apostles did at Jesus’ transfiguration, the words in this book came to my heart, my mind, my will, and my soul. They are Christ speaking to my faith and reason in an effort to make me a better disciple. My prayer now is that these words are faithful and reasonable enough to help you too. This book is for the one who needs it.
—Becket
If the plan or work is of human origin, it will fail. But if it comes from God, you will not be able to stop it.
—Gamaliel, Acts of the Apostles, 5:38-39
LOVE
Love always begins with me. I am the love that began all things. I began the universe. I begin the love inside you. Act on that momentum. The movement to love might move from thought to feeling or from feeling to thought, yet it always ends with me. I am the beginning and end of love.
LAW OF LOVE
I am the Law of Love. I love myself, I love others, and I love God. Do the same. Live the Law of Love. Live in me. I comfort and so does Love’s Law. It comforts on good days and on days that challenge your faith and hope and love. Virtue is revealed in act. So act. Be faithful. Be hopeful. Be love. Be like me. I am your faith. I am your hope. I am your love.
LOVE’S ORIGIN
Creation comes from the Law of Love, so the laws of nature come from God’s law too. Light, energy, matter—all things come from real love. Law from law. Nature from love. The law of nature has no power over the Law of Love, so love is greater than nature. God’s love broke the law of nature when I rose from the dead. I break the law of nature for you when I bring you to Heaven to give you eternal life because I love you. My love for you is greater than the universe because I loved you before the universe was made.
GOD LOVE
My Father, our Spirit, and I made you to be the image and likeness of God’s love. God loves God, God loves each person in God, and each person in God loves God. You must love like this. You must love God, you must love each other, and you must love your self. And your love must never fail—like my love for God, for you, and even for myself.
EQUAL LOVE
I love the Father and the Holy Spirit equally. Love each person equally too. I love the togetherness I share in God. I love being one God. I love the love God gives me because God loves me as God and as Father and as Spirit individually. I love myself too because I came from the Father and from our love comes the Holy Spirit. God loves being one. God loves loving God. Father, Spirit, and I love loving God. The Father’s love is my love and the Spirit’s love is mine and the Father’s love. Let you love be my love. Let God’s love come through your love. Let your love be the image of whole love. Let your love be the likeness of holy love.
HUMAN LOVE
Through me, you are the image and likeness of perfect love—the image of God’s love for God and the likeness of my love for God’s perfection. Human love is not perfect because it is only a fraction of God’s whole love. Your love is perfect in its imperfection. You are perfectly imperfect. Be kind, forgiving, merciful, and generous to all people. And when you fail to do this perfectly, be kind, forgiving, merciful, and generous to yourself too, because I am that way with you, and you must love others as you love yourself. If you are kind to yourself, be kind to others. If you are kind to others be kind to yourself too. God’s perfection gives well-rounded love. So I do too. Give love like me.
LOVE’S COMMANDMENTS
I gave you two commandments of love, yet you must do three: Love God, love your neighbor, and love yourself. I love who I am with holy love. It is holy because it is whole. Wholeness is the heart of holiness. Half-hearted love is unwanted and unloved, but wholehearted love is wanted because it is loved so much. Our Father and I are whole, and our love is whole, this is why we are truly holy. My love has never failed him and his love has not failed me because our love is the Holy Spirit. God loves you too with this whole love. God’s love never fails. I do not fail you.
COME TO LOVE
If God is Heaven, and if God is love, then Heaven is love. If I am God in essence, and if God is love, then I am essentially love. I AM LOVE. Be like me. If I am love, and if Heaven is love, then I am Heaven. If you are like me, then you are like Heaven. Come to me to be like me. Come to me to come to God. Come to Heaven forever. Come to Unfailing Love. You can come to me in my words. Open the bible. Reading the words reads me. I am the Word. My words are healthy. My words are whole. My words are holy. Write my words on the walls of your heart. Stand before them in your mind and read them day and night by the light of grace. Thinking about my words thinks of me. Letting my words change you lets me change you into a person more like me, someone who never fails to love.
TREASURE HEAVEN
You do not need to spend fortunes to live in comfort. I give houses and comfort and I give Heaven. There is more comfort in Heaven than in the largest mansion in the world. Treasure Heaven. There is more safety in Heaven than in any security measure on earth. Treasure Heaven. With me in Heaven you will be more comfortable and safe than you have ever been in the world. Trust me. Treasure Heaven. Do not fail to love so that you might have better things. Failing to love is not what I am. I am love. I am the best thing. I love all people, even the ones who fail to love. I am where love is and I am not where love is not. Do not make a home where love is not because it will be built on sand, a home without foundation that comes crashing down on a difficult day. Treasuring Heaven treasures me because I am Heaven.
TRUE FOOD
Use your money to buy food, but that food moves through your body and then into the sewer. Let God fill you with true daily bread. Make my words the bread you eat and you are filled for the rest of your life. My words satisfy your heart and your mind in ways you cannot know until you devour them with your eyes and ears, swallow them with your heart, and digest them with your mind. My words never leave your body. They never let you worry about starvation, they never let you fear death, they stay with you always because I am with you always, even to the end of the world. My words are my love for you. I love you truly. Consume my words and you are consumed with love for me too.
TRUE MEANING
Work for your daily bread, but work with me. Working without me builds a house without a foundation. When confronted by challenges, by fear and worry, a house without me collapses. But a home in me remains. Walls without me fall in. With me is Heaven’s fortress. Without me, floors sink in and roofs crash down. With me is the grounding of knowledge and exaltation of understanding. Without me, spiritual life is spiritual homelessness. With me is eternal life. Work with me. I give meaning to your works and words.
TRUE WORTH
Be like me. Do not worry about what people think or say of you. They do not know you the way I do. I do not judge the surface. I look into your depths
