Become a Better Faith Blogger - Ed Cyzewski
Introduction
One day I was sitting in the living room with the rabbits thinking of the ways people make lots of money. In a moment of unusual clarity, I realized that blogging and writing books about the Christian faith wasn't the most reliable path to financial security.
Then a second insight came to me: I like writing Christian books and blog posts anyway. So what if I can't afford swanky mixed greens for the rabbits? And it's too bad for them if they don't like the bulk hay from Oxbow.
Nevertheless, if I couldn't count on blogging to pay the bills, I at least wanted to do it well. If I couldn't write something worth reading, as in blog posts that actually help people, then why even bother?
Removing the financial component from any endeavor can sharpen your focus on both your motivation and your true goals.
I started paying attention to the best traits of the bloggers I know because I wanted to improve my writing. I shared my findings on my former blog www.inamirrordimly.com as part of a weekly blog series in November 2012 (I have since moved my blogging over to www.edcyzewski.com).
While the advice in this series can generally apply to bloggers in any field, I wanted to specifically focus on tips for faith bloggers or at least add a Christian twist to some of the topics. Let's face it: once faith is in the picture, sometimes the rules and practices are a little different.
For instance, advertising on a Christian blog is sometimes viewed with suspicion, though less so than in years past. Bloggers who tackle controversial subjects could be viewed as courting conflict for the sake of sucking in more readers. The goals for Christian blogs can become quite murky at times since we aspire to physically live out our faith. Thinking and writing about it simply won't do for serious followers of Jesus. I hope that you'll find some ideas here that will help you improve your writing as well as your blog while you're at it.
