Mastering Camtasia - Peter Adams
INTRODUCTION TO CAMTASIA
Camtasia has uses in education, training, and marketing because this software makes it simple and quick to capture computer screen activity, web cam video, and audio in order to produce and edit videos. During editing, other multimedia files in dozens of different formats can get integrated into the video seamlessly. While the basic software has remained fairly simple and intuitive to use, it has many features that make it a full-service video capture and production tool. Camtasia can turn almost anybody into a video producer.
With some practice, users can produce very professional videos without the assistance of a video production studio. Many users can install the program and begin creating their first video within a few minutes. In fact, one common reaction is the expression of how simple Camtasia is to master.
Originally, the software was only meant as a tool to capture screens for use in video, but it evolved into allowing these screen captures to get integrated with a large variety of post-production tools. Videos can get presented live for a screen cast, and they can also get recorded to share over a network or the Internet, and this process can get repeated again and again. This added functionality allowed Camtasia to evolve from a tool that was mostly used for software training into full video production software with hundreds of different uses.
TechSmith, the company behind this software, has versions both for Microsoft Windows and the Mac. The company offers a free trial, and they also market paid versions. The software comes with two major components:
Camtasia Recorder: This is the portion of the software that captures screen displays, video, and audio.
Camtasia Studio Editor: This is the authoring component with many features for video editing and integration.
In the past, there were some complaints about the amount of system resources that this system used. Also, rendering times were considered very long. However, the latest version of Camtasia has addressed these problems to most user's satisfaction. The program runs more efficiency and renders videos quicker than it used to.
To be fair to the producer of this software, TechSmith provides a lot of help files, documentation, and tutorial. Not surprisingly, most of these tutorials are videos, and these make it very easy to follow along while using the software.
However, there is so much information provided by the company that it can be a bit overwhelming for new users. That is why Mastering Camtasia was created as a helpful resource to help folks learn about the major features and get started quickly.
