    Chapter One

    Friday night.

    Time to cut loose!

Do you have a date with Rick? Layla Aziz asked her coworker, Siri Jorgenson.

Nope. Siri stood at the sink behind the counter of Tease, the tea shop Layla operated in Vancouver’s trendy Kitsilano neighborhood. As Layla cashed out at the register, Siri wrung her washcloth and draped it on the faucet. Apparently, Rickie’s prickie is stuck in the office tonight. Again, damn it. Siri sighed.

Layla peered at her. Is everything okay with you two?

I don’t know. Sometimes I think he— Siri’s gaze darted toward Layla’s guy, Gil Cuthbert. Gil sat at a table by the window, black jacket slung on his chair and his hair mussed from the June day’s rain and wind.

Layla couldn’t wait to tangle her fingers in those blond waves. She couldn’t wait to get her hands on Gil.

The moment she’d hung the Closed sign on the glass-paned door, Gil’s blue gaze had tracked her every move. This morning, after they’d fucked in her rented apartment in back of the small Victorian house containing the shop, he’d promised her a surprise tonight guaranteed to rock her world.

    Her pussy tingled.

But Gil—and her sexual appetite, unfortunately—would have to wait. She needed to talk to Siri.

Catching Gil’s gaze, Layla flicked a hand at him, their unspoken communication for bug off. He grinned and extracted his smartphone from the pocket of his chambray shirt. Seconds later, his emails captured his concentration, providing Layla and Siri a modicum of privacy.

You think Rick’s what? Layla asked beneath the melodious Indian music drifting from the sound system.

Not into me anymore, Siri said.

Don’t be silly. You’re smart, witty, and beautiful. Siri’s ivory skin and Nordic-blond hair attracted nearly every heterosexual male who walked into the shop, and her droll sense of humor kept customers of both genders returning time and again.

Siri shrugged. Men are easily bored.

Rick said that to you? A-hole.

Not exactly. Siri shook her head. I don’t want to talk about it.

    Are you sure?

Positive. I’m having dinner with Grace. I haven’t seen her in ages. It’ll be fun.

Hint taken. Layla changed the subject. Wow. Nico is letting her out? Siri’s best friend had married a controlling son of a bitch. Layla couldn’t fathom what classy Grace Delgado saw in Nico, other than he had hot Argentine tango instructor written all over him.

Nico wasn’t as handsome as Gil, though. Layla liked her men blond and buff…except when she liked them dark and brooding.

Like Gil’s business partner, Hunter Cole.

Siri chuckled. Grace goes out plenty with Nico.

He orders her around. Layla punched the keys to shut down the register.

Grace loves it. If she’s good, Nico rewards her. Grace lives for those rewards.

That’s sick. Layla locked the till. Turning, she reached for the false-bottomed tea tin on the crowded shelves behind them. Siri fetched her purse, compact umbrella, and the night deposit bag. As Layla secreted the cash-register key into the tin’s false bottom, the shop bell tinkled.

Omigod, is that who I think it is? Siri whispered, nudging Layla with the deposit bag.

Layla glanced up from the tin. Hunter. His sage-green eyes stood out
