Chapter 1
Simone Rivers looked like a princess in her Vera Wang wedding dress, although Crystal didn't dare say so since Alejandro was feeling slighted about not being asked to design her dress.
I would never have made a dress like that for Simone,
he muttered, his eyes shooting daggers at the dress as it swished around Simone's body, while she paced outside the church hall, snapping at Lexi, her Maid of Honor. "She's tall and slender, so I would have made something with a dropped waist and a longer train. That is just atrocious."
Crystal barely managed to stop herself from rolling her eyes.
The processional music started, and the other two bridesmaids and two groomsmen, all people Crystal didn't know, paired up. Crystal slipped her hand around Alejandro's arm. Ready?
Alejandro turned from glaring at Simone in the dress and tugged at his bow tie. Even this suit she's got us wearing isn't great.
This time, Crystal had to roll her eyes. Alejandro and the other groomsmen looked handsome in their black Armani suits.
And you bridesmaids don't look that great either,
Alejandro muttered.
Hey, I look fantastic,
Crystal replied, smoothing a hand over the satiny material of her blue dress.
Just then, Justine, the wedding planner, raced over to them. Get into position everyone. Where is the Maid of Honor?
Crystal pointed at Lexi who was outside talking to Simone in a hushed voice, as though Simone were teetering on a high ledge, and Lexi was trying to stop her from jumping.
Justine hurried towards Simone and Lexi, fire in her eyes. She always looked harried, and borderline annoyed, no matter what. She'd made last night's rehearsal a nightmare. Crystal just hoped Justine wouldn't do anything to make Simone even more nervous than she already was. Crystal would never have imagined that Simone would be so nervous. If Crystal was the one getting married to the love of her life, she wouldn't be nervous at all. She'd grab it with both hands.
She scanned the hall and found Juda standing behind one of the video cameras, staring directly at her. She quickly dragged her gaze away, her cheeks flooding with heat. She hadn't spoken to Juda much recently. Not that she didn't want to, but his confession last week had destroyed her. She didn't know how to move on from it.
Do I still love him?
Crystal closed her eyes briefly. The way her heart both accelerated and ached at the same time told her the answer to that question. She was hurt, but she still loved him.
But was love enough?
Her parents would need to be told, and they would need to forgive him. She couldn't be with Juda if her parents were against their relationship. Some people would defy their parents if they were in love, but Juda's confession was just too big. He'd been in involved with her brother's death. If her parents didn't want them together, Crystal would obey
