    Planning a wedding can be exciting, nerve-wracking, exhilarating and stressful all at the same time. Decisions will be have to be made at every step of the way.

    If you’re like me though, you don’t have an unlimited budget and could use a helping hand navigating the murky planning waters. That’s exactly what you’ll find within these pages – tips, tricks, and DIYs designed to help you keep your costs in check and stick to your budget on your way to the altar.

    Who Am I

    In 2008, I set out to plan a $12,000 wedding. I’m by no means high-maintenance, but I do like nice things so I knew it would be a challenge.

    Why $12,000? We knew we’d be paying for the wedding ourselves and wanted to avoid the use of credit cards if at all possible. When we sat down to determine a budget, $12,000 was the amount of cash we figured we’d be able to save up by the wedding date.

    It seemed like a crazy task because my universe at the time only included the weddings I saw on The Knot and TLC TV shows. I hadn’t yet been to many weddings, or at least any where I’d considered how much they’d cost.

    My only other prior exposure to anything wedding-related was actually ironically significant. My first job, while I was still in high school was as a bridal consultant at a local salon. I was in high school, but I felt like I was the owner myself on some days. I took measurements, ordered dresses, pinned for alterations, and ran the front desk; sometimes it seemed all at the same time. We were a small shop, but serviced a large area of the city so we were always busy. Even though I felt like it was poorly run
