About this ebook

Victor was already given his escape, but never found the confidence to tell anyone -- not even Maria. He was caught between staying and going -- with Maria holding him back, and Margaux pushing him to leave. Thinking of the debt that needs to be repaid, he was drawn to the latter. But a lie can change everything, and this single mistruth led Maria to believe Victor was truly and hopelessly in love with her. Although he never intended for anything to bloom, a night out with his miracle opened his heart to new hopes and fears. To which he will respond to, he wasn’t sure. But a decision has to be made.

It was ten to four in the afternoon, and the boys would be coming home anytime soon. I prepared ham sandwiches for them all, plus a pitcher of lemon juice. A long day of hard work, after all, deserved a reward.

Mark didn’t want to admit it before, but having an extra hand in the farm brought major improvements. Everything needed to be fixed got fixed, delays didn’t pester the last harvest, and free time got more abundant for all of us. But of all the improvements, what amazed me was how he cooperated with Victor now. Too bad the two weeks was almost up though.

I seriously had no idea what would happen after that time period. Mike told him to lay low, and he did. But how would Victor know when’s the right time to move? And where would he go after? I guess I would just have to ask him about it. We talk every afternoon anyway.
