    Chapter One

The old man said the house was not far.  Bryce grimaced, as he stopped dead in his tracks and shot a narrow gaze around the dense forest.  If the house was not far, then where the hell was it?  He ground his teeth, frustration settling in his gut, and he continued on his way.  He had been in these damn woods for three days and he had not seen any sign of life, let alone a house where a witch resided.  This blasted forest was void of any life.  Even the animals were hiding from him, the bears, the fox, and the wolves, which surprised him since he had so much in damn common with them.

Damnation! He had to find the witch now.  The old man had said she was the only one who had the cure.

The powerful forest witch, known as Zora, was the only one who could rid him of his lycan curse.

Zora bent down and smiled as she inspected her flowers blooming in her garden.  They were so lovely and she could not wait to bring the roses into her home and fill it with their sweet smell.  A long, frightened hiss stilled her thoughts.  Zora rose and turned around, replacing her smile with a frown when her gaze settled on her cat.

    What is it, Luna?

Zora’s frown deepened as her cat rose on its haunches and continued hissing at something behind her.  Zora turned around and glanced at the trees surrounding her.  The forest seemed unnaturally quiet this morning.  She did not hear a peep from the birds or the forest creatures.  Curious, she looked up and saw clear, blue skies.  Approaching bad weather could not be the reason for this silence.

Luna hissed again and Zora spun around to give her cat a reproaching look. Quiet, Luna.  You’re probably sensing a mouse.

With a sigh on her lips, she walked to her porch and lifted Luna in her arms.  Zora ran a gentle hand down its back and smiled as her cat calmed down and began to purr.

It’s okay, she cooed.  There’s nothing dangerous out there.

She lowered herself on her patio chair and rocked back and forth.  Luna’s purr grew and Zora began humming a soft tune.

    ****

Bryce sensed the wolf behind the boulder and growled at his unseen foe.  His pure brethren were a territorial group that lived in packs and Bryce sensed two more wolves surrounding him.  Slowly, he lowered his bag on the ground, realizing the three wolves were readying for an attack.

He cursed under his breath.  He did not need this.  Not now.  He had to find the witch who lived deep in these woods.  The old man in the last village had given Bryce directions where she lived, but he had also cautioned Bryce to be careful.  The old man had told him no one had ever ventured out of her forest alive.

She is a dangerous and evil sorceress, the old man had said.  Legend says she could kill you with a blink of her eye.

Bryce stiffened as all thoughts fled from his mind.  He was polarized, unmanned at the sound he heard.  He stopped thinking about the old man’s warnings and he ignored the three wolves preparing to attack him.  He was riveted to his spot, listening to the captivating sound of a woman...singing?  He drew his brows together, momentarily shaken by the beautiful voice.  Without
