About this series

This novel takes place after Freed (#3 Flamestone Trilogy.)

Jaden's nothing but a traitor and he knows it. He's sold out his settlement to the Flamestone Society in the hope of getting his mother back from them. Instead, he's now cursed to dwell underground and avoid the toxic rays of the sun, which will kill him. There's no hope of redemption. The best he can hope to do is find his mother so she can go back to Earth.

But in his search for her, he discovers an entire culture of people like him—the Disgraced—far underground. They're in danger from both starvation and a sadistic leader who's rising through their ranks. And worse—the guy he sold out is with them, doomed to remain underground until he can find a cure.

Tense.

Only a cure will free the Disgraced from their condition and a life in the depths, but finding it may prove too dangerous. But Jaden's not going to live the life of a coward anymore. He's going to help free the Disgraced and redeem himself even if it means his death.

Now with no choice but to go forward, Elaine and her new friend, Weslie, must descend into the terrifying Dweller mines to rescue their friends, who are now trapped in the deepest reaches. That's bad news, because there are monsters down there they'll need to deal with, along with other unspeakable dangers.  But rescuing her friends won't be the only dangerous task waiting for Elaine. There's also talk of a Heart of Flamestone far underground, and it might hold the secret to stopping the Dwellers and freeing all their slaves for good. But worst of all, Elaine's now weighed down with the knowledge that she must also kill her evil stepfather to stop his system of slavery. He's in pursuit and if Elaine can't find the strength to kill him and tear her family apart, he's going to make sure she never sees the surface again.

Still reeling from the revelation that her present family is involved in the Flamestone Society, Elaine has made it to a rugged settlement called Wompitt, a town made up of escapees from the Dweller mines. That's good, because she's going to need all the help she can get to rescue her friends from the mines and stop the evil Society from selling any more souls to the depths. Or is it? It seems the people of Wompitt have one thing on their mind: survival, and nothing else. Worse, the leader of Wompitt thinks she might have connections to the Society, and there's only one punishment for that—death. And it gets even worse than that. Someone inside the walls really is working against them all, and Elaine's the top suspect. Can she survive long enough to mount a rescue mission for her friends?
