    Week 8 Teaser

    1 - Beck’s Apartment - Monday, 2:35 a.m.

Door waking her, Beck wasn’t concerned, just really, really irritated. The third night in a row Leo had come in at a ridiculously irresponsible hour, it was clear he had zero respect for the fact she hadn’t adopted his job-free, carefree lifestyle.

    Shhh.

Feminine laughter following Leo’s attempt at quieting the noisy entrance, Beck’s annoyance bloomed into outrage. Tossing off the covers, she grabbed the shiny metal emblem off her dresser on her way to the bedroom door, pulling it open like a normal human being, before deciding a slam was really necessary to break through the haze of sloppy kissing that had overtaken her brother and the random woman in her apartment.

Is that your girlfriend? The woman went slack-jawed for a second at the sight of Beck staring, cross-armed, out of the doorway. I mean, I’m okay with it, if she is.

Considering the woman looked as if she was pulled off a stage somewhere with one of the lowest cover charges in town, Beck wasn’t surprised.

No. That’s my sister, Leo said.

Oh, yeah. The woman grinned a drunken, overly-broad grin. Yeah, I see it now. Hey, what’s up?

What are you doing? Looking to Leo, it was easy to tune the woman out.

We were just going to hang out.

Yeah, that’s not happening, Beck informed him.

Does she tell you what to do?

Yes, she does. The stranger in her apartment suddenly getting a mouth on her, Beck sent her a look of express warning that she should really stop it from speaking. Now, get the hell out of my apartment.

    You don’t have to go.

Beck was really curious as to how Leo thought that statement was anywhere close to accurate. Last she checked, there was one name on the lease - her name - there was one person paying for the place - her - and that gave her final say on who came through its door.

She’s just in a bad mood because we woke her up. Go back to bed, Beck. We’ll be quiet.

Like little mice. The woman apparently thought she was cute.

You need to turn that off. Beck pointed to the TV the instant Leo powered it on. And you need to leave.

Coming her way, Leo huffed as he cast Beck into shadow, and Beck could smell the stench of a hard night’s drinking before he made it within five feet of her.

What is your problem? he asked. Why can’t you just be cool?

Yeah. Be cool. The woman came to hang off Leo’s shoulder. We’re not going to hurt anything.

Tired of being polite when she had every reason not to be, Beck brandished the metal shield clutched in her hand, watching the sexpot’s demeanor change in a heartbeat.

Oh, hell no. I am not dealing with that.

Don’t leave. Leo trailed the woman a few steps toward the door. She’s not going to arrest you.

Huh uh. I do not do cops, the sexpot declared, out the door before Leo could make another appeal to her.

What the fuck, Beck? Turning her way, Leo was seriously furious, which made two of them.

Have you forgotten you have a girlfriend?

Do I? Leo returned. "See her around here
