      माइक। उस बच्चे का नाम माइक था, पेरी ने बोला गैस पैडल को निकाल कर लगभग फर्श तक लाते हुए

      गधे।पेरी ने रफ्तार कम कर दी जैसे ही उसने न्यू जर्सी का जॉर्ज वॉशिंग्टन ब्रिज पार किया।

      वहाँ सीधे पैलिसेड़ पार्कवे में चली गई, फिर अपनी बी॰एम॰डबल्यू कार की आरामदेह चमड़े की सीट पर झुक गई। पाइन ग्रोव का रास्ता उसका इतना जाना-पहचाना था कि वो सोते हुए भी गाड़ी चला सकती थी।मिकी आज तुम ज़िंदा होते तो 5 साल के होते। 5 साल हो गए जब हमने तुम्हारी राख़ केदार झील में बिखराई थी।22 जून, मिकी के जन्मदिन से एक दिन पहले, पाइन ग्रोव के लिए पेरी की वार्षिक यात्रा का दिन था। उसने एक अस्थिर सांस ली। SIDS ने 4 महीने के माइकल जेस्सुप को ले लिया था। माइकल जेस्सुप पेरी ओर सर्जियंट मैथिऊ जेस्सुप का बेटा।।। मैथिऊ जेस्सुप कभी पेरी के पति अब उसके पूर्व पति।पेरी केदार झील के किनारे के पाइन ग्रोव गेस्ट हाउस की सड़क को जाती हटी है। उसके पास हर साल के इसी हफ्ते के लिए आकर्षण था। लेसी रयान,सलेटी रंग के बालों वाली गेस्ट हाउस की मालिक ने पेरी का कमरा तैयार किया हुआ था। उसने लेसी की पकड़ी हुई थाली से एक ताज़ा बेक्ड कूकी ली।

      कमरा तैयार है, पेरीलेसी ने सुंदर काले बालों वाली को गले से लगाते हुए कहा।

      बूढ़े डॉक ब्रांफोर्ड के अहाते में ये लड़कियां कैसी? पेरी ने कूकी चबाते हुए पूछा।

      डॉक फ्लॉरिडा चले गए हैं। किसी ने ये जगह खरीद ली है। इसकी मरम्मत चल रही है लेसी प्लेट को रसोईघर में ले जाते हुए बोली। कॉफी अभी भी गरम है।

      पेरी को उसके पेट में दर्द महसूस हुआ। डॉक ब्रांफोर्ड का घर ही वह घर था जहां मैट और पैरी अपने हनीमून के लिए रुके थे। वह नौ-सेना से छुट्टी पर था जब वो मिले। हर साल पेरी उस पुरानी जगह को अगले दरवाजे से झाँकती थी, जो पहले से ज्यादा थका और पुराना मिलता था।वो वहाँ रुक नहीं पाई। बहुत सारी यादें थी।।।यहीं माइक उसके गरभ में आया। वो दोनों यहाँ तब भी रुके जब माइक की राख़ लाए थे।। जब उनकी वो निर्दयी झगड़ा हुआ,
