      Introduction

      Thank you for downloading this eBook. First off, I’d like to tell you that I’m not a Bible scholar, I’m not a minister, missionary or a teacher either. I’m a regular person just like you and this just happens to be one of my first eBooks that I have ever written. The comments and brief recaps of each chapter that I have compiled in this short eBook series are of my own thinking, and are not influenced by any other source except for the Bible. I’m going to give you honest opinions and not just the standard Christian replies. You will notice that I don’t comment on every little thing in each chapter as I want this to be a short, daily commentary to go along with your reading. I just wanted to be able to provide something that is easy to read and to get you involved in thinking with me concerning these scriptures. If this gets you in the habit of reading the Bible, you learn something, or I provoke some thought within you, then great!

      I tend to like to read just one chapter a day and think about it some, but the book of James has so much packed into each chapter that I found myself taking two or three reading sessions to get through it. To tell you the truth, there were days and sometimes weeks that I didn’t even read any scriptures for many various reasons. You know like I’m too tired, too lazy, not in a good frame of mind, I’ve got too much to do, etc. With all that being said, it took me just over four years to write up my thoughts and recap the entire Bible.

      In this book I will be going over Matthew the first book in the New Testament, which is the second half of the Bible. I’d encourage you to read the scriptures with me when you want, as much as you want and then I will share some of my own thoughts on it.       Chapter 1

      The Genealogy of Jesus

      First off let me tell you that Matthew, the author of this book was a disciple or a close follower of Christ and he was also a tax collector. Not too popular of a person back then. (Not too popular today either.) A little trivia for you that I found out. Even though the first 4 books of the New Testament have some similar stories, the book of Matthew has 30 things that are only found in this book of the Bible.

      Genealogies can be boring and I have in the past been tempted to skip over them, but in recent years a thought came to my mind concerning them, which was that I look for names that are somewhat familiar to me and I try to recall where I recognize them from.

      This genealogy of Jesus’ is of more interest than most others I have read from the Bible. One will recognize more names in this one than usual. Starting with the one called the father of all nations – Abraham. Great men of God are part of Jesus’ genealogy. People such as David and his son Solomon. Even though we think of the fallen state of Solomon, God did use him and show him great favor. I counted 44 men listed in this genealogy. It is interesting to note that four mothers were listed in this account, ending with the mother of Jesus, Mary. In thinking about Jesus’ genealogy, I think being related to Abraham added much value to him in the eyes of the Jews. We will see that Jesus the Messiah was a fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies. It is said here that David was the father of Solomon and whose mother had been Uriah’s wife. Which I find kind off odd, don’t you? I would have rather
