Victoria Zigler

Victoria Zigler is a blind vegan poet and children's author. Born and raised in the shadow of the Black Mountains of Wales, UK, she moved away from Wales three times: once to spend six months living in Alberta, Canada, the other times to spend a few years living near Hastings on the South-East coast of England, UK, each time returning to Wales. Now she lives in Wales again, along with a chinchilla named Mollie, a West Highland White Terrier named Lilie, a Cavapoo named Logan, a Hermann’s Tortoise named Artemis, and her Canadian husband, Kelly.Despite spending far too much time in hospital, and eventually losing her sight to Congenital Glaucoma, Victoria - or Tori, if you prefer - has been writing since she knew how, with no plans to stop any time soon. So far she has published 11 poetry books and 46 children’s books. Tori is also a contributor of the sci-fi and fantasy anthology Wyrd Worlds II, as well as the Poetry Treasures anthology. Additionally, her Hermann’s Tortoise, Artemis, was featured in both the Magnificent Pets Coloring Book For Children and the Magnificent Pets Mandala Coloring Book For Adults.Vegan due to both a love for animals and dairy allergy, as well as an Eclectic Pagan, Tori describes herself as a combination of Hermione Granger and Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter books: Hermione’s thirst for knowledge and love of books, combined with Luna’s wandering mind and alternative way of looking at the world. She has a wide variety of interests, designed to exercise both the creative and logical sides of her brain, and dabbles in them at random depending on what she feels like doing at any given time, but is most likely to be found playing with her petkids, curled up somewhere with a cup of tea and a book, or trying to keep one step ahead of those pesky typo fairies while writing her own books.

    Prologue

Flapping her black butterfly-like wings just enough to keep herself in one spot in the air, Enid the Spirit fairy stamped her tiny foot angrily in mid air; her jet black eyes narrowed as she glared up the mountain path that led to the gryphon nesting place, as though the path itself was responsible for everything that was wrong in the Spirit Fairy’s life.

Even while Enid had goblins on her side, the wielder of the five magics of the elements had somehow managed to ruin her plans, and free Enid’s sister, Ora the Air fairy, from her magical prison.

Twice now that interfering faerie dragon, Zeena, had managed to ruin Enid’s plans to replace her element fairy sisters, helped by her annoying little pixie friend, Saarik.

Enid had thought that allowing the goblins to help would stop Zeena and Saarik from freeing her sister, Ora the Air fairy, from the cave in the mountains, but she had been wrong.

Just like she’d been wrong that the korreds would be enough to stop the wielder of the five magics of the elements from freeing her other sister, Heidi the Earth fairy, from the cave in the woods.

Well, Enid thought, as she continued to glare at the mountain path, it wouldn’t happen a third time.

    This time would be different.

This time she would make it even more difficult for that annoying creature to spoil her plans.

She would make the creatures of water suffer, and they would know they needed her, and beg for her help.

And she would make them beg, because then she would be sure they would remember who she was.

She wouldn’t be forgotten in favour of her four sisters any more.

This time everyone would remember that there were five elements, and five fairies to go with them.

This time they would remember the Spirit fairy.

This time, if that annoying faerie dragon showed up, it would have to be without her troublesome pixie friend.

Angrily, Enid turned South and flew as fast as her midnight black wings would carry her to the coast.

There she rested for a while on the golden sands; her jet black eyes fixed upon the waves that rolled upon the shore; watching them as though they held the answers, and staring at them for long enough would fix everything.

As she stood there, with the salty breeze that blew in from the ocean making her raven black hair stream out behind her like a cloak, the ocean seemed to bring her some peace.

Then, after standing there for what seemed like hours, she mentally shook herself, sprinkled herself
