    Foreword

Sammy as an orphaned samango monkey brought up by a human family and allowed to explore both the Vervet rehabilitation centre and the house, where he lived, became very smart and was forever in trouble. He made lots of friends, his best friend being Honey a golden retriever dog and his second best friend was a tabby cat, who did not complain when he sat on her, rode on her and insisted on cleaning her ears.

Sammy spent most of his day jumping about in the numerous very tall indigenous trees at the centre. There he played with the wild vervet monkeys, ate the leaves, berries and buds of the trees and even scraped the bark of the trees, especially the Natal Mahogany, to get the resin. He had a wonderful childhood, being free to explore the trees, sleep outside and also to have the protection and stimulation of a human family.

He has been released back into the wild and is in a forest with samango friends at the Riverside Wildlife Centre. He can be seen jumping through the canopy of the forest with his special friend Ziggy. He is now free and wild again.

Oh thought Sammy. I wonder what this large brown thing is. It walked into the pond, and stood under the spray and now, has been rolling around in the sand with all its legs in the air. It is so muddy and dirty. It has a tail like mine, but it is a very very waggy fluffy, dirty, muddy, wet tail.

I have been watching and it cannot climb the trees, and by walking in the fish pond it has become very dripping wet and dirty.

I think I will creep closer and have a better look. I think it is friendly. I will look at the teeth and
