It’s a rainy 3:30 in the afternoon. After spending most of the day so far working, homeschooling your ninth grader, grocery shopping, finishing paperwork, keeping the house clean and organized, and tending to other needs of the day, you think you can finally get a shower and prepare for the marriage counseling session you and your husband are leading that evening. (long sentence, yes) After breathing a sigh of, “wow, what a busy day again,” you feel a droplet fall on your head. You realize you are standing on wet carpet and under a leaky ceiling. Buckets, towels, ladders, more buckets, phone calls to husband telling him the ceiling is leaking. Outside in rain boots two sizes too big, wading through a flooded patio...standing on the forbidden top rung of the ladder, holding an umbrella, “de-leafing” the gutters. Back inside to manage the leak, back outside to continue to “de-leaf”.T minus 45 minutes to counseling session. You dig a trench/moat in the chicken pen to keep the water from pouring into the chicken run. One of the chickens is nowhere to be found. Finally, the gutters are de-leafed, the ceiling leak managed, the rain continues. Sigh.T minus 30 minutes to counseling session. Go upstairs to shower. You realize a rooster has just finished being bathed in the master bathroom. He is now basking in the warmth of the blow drier. Because of the personality of your daughter and the almost commonness of this day you think to yourself, “that is not weird at all.”Husband comes home. Rain tapers. Clock ticks. It’s shower time.Despite the poor sentence structure of the above explanation, I have hopefully given you a taste of my life. I have always thought of myself as “normal” in the sense that I grew up, went to college, got my degree, got married, had a child, got a career, etc. However, my “normal” now looks different than the expected normal 15 years ago.I am the wife of a pastor and musician. The mom of a future veterinarian and world changer. The woman that tries to wear all the hats arrayed in my closet. Our dog, hedgehogs, rabbit, chickens and run ins with other animals tend to keep life a little less normal, as well. It’s hectic, it’s eventful, and it is blessed!
