    Chapter1

Rihanna was fifteen minutes late for her farewell party at Dell’s in Decatur. She was just walking through the door when her ex-boyfriend/boss walked out of the club with his new girlfriend. Rihanna wanted badly to tell him what she really thought of him, but she thought better of it. This move was a new start for her, one she planned to take advantage of, for more than one reason. She brushed past him and continued on to the group of friends and family waiting for her in the corner of the club.

She hugged her mother and her brother Dre as soon as she made it over to the group, and then hugged the rest of them.  She would miss these people and this club. Dell’s was a family friendly night club in downtown Decatur and Rihanna had been coming here since she was thirteen. She kissed her first boy in this club and cried over her first heartbreak, sitting in the seat she was now sitting in, laughing with several of her friends.

Rihanna didn’t want the night to end, but she knew she had to leave soon because she had an early flight. Rihanna hugged everyone one last time, making sure her mom was the last one she hugged, squeezing her extra hard and kissing her on the cheek.

Rihanna made it home a little after midnight and she was tired, but she still had a few more things to pack up before she left in the morning. She was just finishing up when someone knocked at her door.  When she opened it, she wished she hadn’t. Greg, her ex, was standing there, holding a bottle of her favorite wine and some flowers. Rihanna crossed her arms and refused to let him enter.

Come on, Ria, let me in. You know you miss me and you want me still. Don’t you want that one last time with me in your bed?  This way you can have good memories of me in it while you’re in New York, Greg said, as he stood in the hallway of her apartment building.

Rihanna looked him up and down, sighed and said, Look -—Greg, was it?  You’re not even in the footnotes of my life. You were just a stepping stone in my life so if you think I’m missing you, you’re wrong. The only thing I miss is the peace and quiet that I was enjoying before you came knocking on my door, so if you don’t mind, please leave, like now.

Greg growled Bitch, as he turned and walked away. Rihanna watched him leave and felt powerful of the fact that she had hurt him with her words. He’d pretty much done the same thing to her when he told her he was married and that he was never going to leave his wife for a piece of ass. Which was what she was to him. Rihanna had immediately quit her job and started looking for another one. She also let Greg’s wife know that he was two-timing her. When she’d finished talking to Greg’s wife, she felt relieved and like she’d gotten vengeance.

One of the first jobs that Rihanna had applied for was in New York City. She hadn’t really thought she was going to get the job, but it was a great idea. She was surprised when they contacted her a few weeks later to schedule an interview. Rihanna booked her first flight out of Hartsfield Jackson airport and went to her interview. She was a little nervous about it. She didn’t want to sound like a southern hick, but she knew she was the best person for the job. So she wasn’t surprised when they offered her the position a week later. She immediately went back to start looking for an apartment for her big move. When she found the perfect one, within walking distance to her new job, she was so happy that she took pictures while she was there and even splurged a little at her favorite shoe store when she got back to Georgia.

Rihanna woke up very early but was too excited and nervous to go back to sleep, so she got out of  bed and began checking her bags and writing down directions that her mother was supposed to follow when the movers came later that morning. When she looked at her phone, she saw that she had a little over an hour to get ready so that she could leave early for her flight to New York. When she was dressed and had her luggage packed she called her mom to let her know she was leaving and called for an early cab.

As Rihanna walked to the cab with the last of her luggage, she glanced back at the home she was leaving for the last time. She didn’t think she would miss her apartment or the things that she was leaving behind. She placed the last bag into the driver’s waiting hands and got into the car. After he verified her destination, he started a conversation, asking her questions and just being amiable. While they talked and he drove she relaxed little by little. By the time they made it to the airport, Rihanna was calm and in need of a nap.  After her sleepless night she realized that she was going to be emotional the whole plane ride.

She loaded up her bags and checked in for her flight. While she waited in line for security, she realized that it was going to be a long day. She reviewed her itinerary for the next day while she waited for the plane to start boarding. When she finished with that, she started reading one of the books she’d picked up to read on the plane. She listened for the boarding call and watched the board to see when she would be departing.

Rihanna looked out the large window on her left to look at the city where she was born. Rihanna stared at the scene, watching the buildings for any signs that they would miss her as much as she would miss them. When they called for boarding, she turned to walk to her gate, only to look back at Georgia again before boarding her plane. Leaving her home one last time.

Rihanna was exiting the airport when she saw a face she hadn’t seen since high school. She ran towards that familiar face hollering out her name. Then they both turned and started running to each other.  They met in the middle of the street hugging and talking fast. Several cars honked at them and they moved their reunion over to the sidewalk.

Oh my god, Ri-Ri is that really you? The blonde girl asked as she embraced her Rihanna once again.

Livia, girl, I thought I’d never see you again. What have you been up to, how have you been? Your mama said you had a cute baby a few years ago and that you got married. Congratulations, I always knew you’d find your soul mate first. Rihanna said quickly in a high pitched squeal.

Olivia laughed, remembering the times they had stood like this in the halls of their old high school.  She calmed Rihanna down and said, Hold up, Ri-Ri, lets catch up at this bar I know. You’d like it and it would give you a chance to check into your hotel.

I don’t have a hotel, Livia. I’m moving into my new apartment today. I’ll be living here from now on. Rihanna squealed again as she looked at Livia.

This just keeps getting better. Where is your apartment, do you have a ride or are you waiting on a cab? Are you looking for work because I know a few places that are hiring? If you need a ride I can take you to your apartment and we can catch up. Livia said as she ushered her friend and her friend’s things towards her car.

I’d love a ride to my place. I had planned on waiting for a cab but I know how hard it is to get one in this city. They loaded Rihanna’s things into Olivia’s SUV. They chatted amicably while they finished putting the bags in, finding out about some of the friends that they had shared in high school. As they settled themselves into the car, Rihanna noticed that there was a car seat in the back, as well as various child related mess. She was thinking that Olivia’s baby was still a baby but she wasn’t expecting a toddler. She hoped the child looked like Olivia more than it looked like its father.

Olivia started talking as they drove, "I got married a few months after we graduated from high school. It was about a month after I disappeared without a word. We moved here so that we could have a fresh start. Everything was going great till I got pregnant with Brenda. When I first found out I was pregnant I didn’t know who the father was. See, I was sleeping with Evan who is Liam’s best friend. I was scared I was pregnant and I didn’t want the man I thought I loved to leave me. So I lied and told him the baby was his. He was so happy and excited about the baby that I didn’t think about what he would say when he found out she wasn’t his. I also didn’t think about his best friend who was away on business. When he got back from his trip he found out through someone else that I was pregnant. He tried to wait till the baby was born but he couldn’t seem to hide our affair from his friend any longer. He gave me an ultimatum, either I tell Liam about him possibly not being the father, or he would tell him.  He gave me three days to choose and when I didn’t do it in the given time frame, he told Liam everything. At first I denied it, but then Liam
