Easy read, but missing all the pictures of outfits. Half is dedicated to convincing you of the importance of dressing well rather than describing ways to "get dressed."

Introduction

In a recent CareerBuilder.com survey, many shared the sentiment that dressing well is more crucial in certain industries than others. Dressing for success is a crucial component of the overall package. The financial services industry emphasizes on the business professional attire the most. More than half of the workers engaged in this sector believe that well-dressed individuals are more likely to land a promotion than others. This is also what sales representatives have to say about their industry.

Approximately 35% of manufacturing and IT employers have respectively claimed that the way, an employee presents themselves in the wardrobe department, has a large impact on whether or not they get promoted.

Employees normally take a more relaxed approach to dressing during the warmer months. However, this should not compromise on professionalism. How you dress is vital to how you will be perceived at work, regardless of the way your colleagues are dressing around you. Dressing up professionally, despite your urge to put on a tank top/shorts, will project a motivated and professional image to colleagues and management alike. My advice to the ambitious is to stand out from your colleagues by dressing the part all year round. When it comes to promotions, management is constantly looking for something that stands you apart from the others and in a tight race, physical presentation could make all the difference. I discuss seasonal appropriate work attire in further chapters.

To the dismay of many employers, traditional dress codes are never enough to keep their employees from dressing up inappropriately. To force them to be more professional, certain clothing items are banned to limit the work wardrobe options of employees. A good example would be the ban on Flip Flops, sleeveless shirts, jeans, and mini-skirts by some organizations. The same CareerBuilder.com survey also claimed that more than a third of the companies surveyed had even sent some employees home due to unsuitable work garb.

This book contains proven steps and strategies on how to build an impressive and expensive looking work wardrobe with a limited budget.

The methods used in this book are used by personal shoppers and stylists to assist their clients in creating a fruitful and well-structured wardrobe. This advice will enable you to easily style yourself perfectly every morning before you leave for work. Follow these guidelines and you will be consistently dressed to impress.

Chapter 1: What is Minimalism?

The concept of minimalist style is to strip design elements down to their essence and achieve clean and chic simplicity. This means the wardrobe is reduced to its necessary elements and details. We should be conscious of form, materials, taste, quality, space and place. It is about the clean and chic elements that add value to your wardrobe.

Why Minimalism

Does the idea of cleaning up your wardrobe, and freeing your mind sound appealing?

Do you aim to get dressed in minutes, with your clothes all working with each other?

Would you like to wear clothes that make you feel confident, beautiful and comfortable?

If yes, then you already have some idea why you were attracted to the idea of cleansing your wardrobe in order to achieve clean and chic, minimalist style. This book is here to guide you to have less clutter, time sucking guesswork, negative thoughts, and toxicity in your day to day dressing. This book is about helping you discover more time, space and energy for things that really matter to you. Integrating a clean and chic, minimalist style means making conscious choices and dressing for your day to day life with intention

Chapter 2: Cleansing & Cleaning Your Wardrobe

First and Foremost, Detox your Closet

Yes, it seems like a gargantuan task to go through your closet and purge it of what no longer serves you. But isn’t that just like anything else worth doing? Here is a quick, easy chart to help you with the process. Do it on a spare afternoon, with no distractions. Enlist a friend, if you must, but just like peeling off a band aid, it must be done with quick precision.

Remember not every single piece needs to go to The Goodwill. Some pieces in your wardrobe might be worth taking to a consignment store or Ebay, if you’re so inclined. This is a great way to put some money back into your pocket. Most consignment stores will take name-brand items that are barely worn, or with tags still attached, or in great mint condition for vintage items.

Chapter 3: Find the Things That Clutter Your Closet, Identify Missing Pieces

Once you’ve segregated items in your closet, grab a pen and paper and make a list. This list should consist of items missing from your wardrobe. Do you need a new blazer? Are you skimping on basics like T shirts, jeans, every day flat shoes? How about dressier items like a silk blouse or a cocktail dress? Remember, when identifying missing pieces, these should be items that work with your current lifestyle. Take a look at your give away pile, too. Why did these items not work out? Aside from the obvious, like ill- fitting or that it may be too worn out, think about the characteristics that made you buy them in the first place, but ended up not liking in the long run.

Also, pay attention to what is on your keep pile. What do you like about these items? Determine if you like how they fit, the color, the style or the fabric. The next time you go shopping keep the things you like in mind! It would make shopping less overwhelming, more fun and it would take you less time, as you already know what you need to get. It would also help you spend less money on things that are aspirational- you know, the pieces that you would never wear unless something earth shattering happened or it only looked good on the hanger, or it was on Final Sale and cannot be returned. These are the pieces that usually stay in that dark corner of your wardrobe, never to see the light of day, and end up cluttering your life. Finding out why you dislike something is as effective as knowing what you like, and together, they act as a filter for future additions

Chapter 4: Defining Your Essence

Wear What You Love, Wear Clothes That Excite You, Wear Clothes That Are You

Look over at that keep pile, and ask yourself what you love about the items, how they make you excited. There is usually some commonality between each piece that causes a clear trend to emerge. Is it that you have a preference for skirts, or maybe high- waisted pants? Do you like the tailored feel of jackets and blazers, no matter the season? Perhaps you enjoy vivid, tropical colors? Whatever the case may be, you’ve decided to stick with these items instead of Giving Away or Throwing Away. This trend is what makes you, YOU!
