    Need a sequel!!! Ahhhhhhhh!

I really do enjoy being able to read a “book” in 45 minutes and have it be a clean break with no cliff hangers...but I feel like I got so invested into the characters, I need a sequel.

Chapter 1

Fiona

I stared up at the ceiling.

Another wave of muffled screaming came through the closed window.

Damn it. I had an early morning class to teach.

I looked over at the clock.

Two in the morning.

This was ridiculous. I couldn't take it anymore.

That's it!

Throwing off the covers, I pulled on the jeans I'd taken off and slipped my feet into the pink bunny slippers my niece had gotten me for my birthday.

I didn't bother locking the door behind me after I stomped out.

The duplex I was renting was a ten minute drive from campus, had plenty of hiking trails all around, and had been on a nice, quiet street.

Until this jackass had moved in next door and the parties had started.

Who had a party every week?

Just the clean up alone would stop me.

And no, I didn't care that I sounded like an old lady. I needed my sleep.

Outside, the music was even louder, which made me even madder.

The street was lined with cars, one of them blocking my driveway.

I glared at the cheerful yellow bug.

If that wasn't gone in the morning, I was having it towed. I didn't care how sunny it looked.

I climbed the steps to the door and pounded on it.

When nobody answered, I pounded some more.

And kept pounding until the door finally swung open.

By a young blonde in tight jeans and a midriff top.

A belly button piercing winked at me from her toned abs.

She looked me over, pausing on my slippers.

Yeah?

Can you please get me the guy who lives here?

Brett? Sure.

She left the door open as she sauntered back inside.

I could feel my stomach vibrating from the bass in the music.

It took a couple of minutes for Brett to come to the door, during which time I had to talk myself out of going in there on a rampage.

Sure, it would feel good in the moment.

But I didn't want to be arrested on assault charges.

No matter how justified.

Were you asking for me?

I looked up from contemplating the ground.

There he was.

Maybe I would have been less angry had he not been so ridiculously good-looking.

I'd never been this close to him before, but now that I was I could judge his height to be around an inch over six feet, just a few inches taller than me.

His smooth, tanned skin was shown off by the white t-shirt he was wearing, the tight sleeves highlighting well developed biceps and his fully tattooed left arm.

His black hair was cut short on the sides and back but longer on top. He usually kept it swept back from his forehead.

His face matched the rest of him- masculine, tough, and sexy. His features were sculpted, with clear cut full lips, lean cheeks, dark slashes for eyebrows, and long dark lashes that framed his light brown eyes.

He looked even better close enough that I could see the shadow of his beard growing in.

His expression was starting to look a little confused and I realized I'd just been staring at him.

Get a grip girl!

Yes, I was. I live next door-

Oh, yeah. Nice to meet you, he smiled, revealing a dimple in his right cheek.

Like he needed anything more.

Life just wasn't fair sometimes.

I'm Brett. I've been meaning to come over and say hello, invite you to a party. Would you like a drink?

He offered me one of the beers he'd been holding.

Fiona. No, thank you. I'd lost some of my steam with the warm welcome.

Damn it.

Actually, I came over here to ask you to please turn down the music. I have to be up early tomorrow and I need my sleep.

Sure, no problem.

That was easy.

I felt even more deflated.

Thank you, I said, turning to go.

By the way- I'm digging those slippers.

I felt my cheeks flush as I mumbled a thank you and hightailed it back to my place.

At least he followed through and turned the music down.

What was a little dignity lost in the face of a good night's sleep?

Brett

I grinned as the redheaded cutie from next door picked up her pace after I complimented her bunny slippers.

A little uptight, but it was kind of adorable.

What did she want?

I looked down as Heather wrapped an arm around mine.

She was dressed to party, with big hair and bright red lips.

Suddenly, she seemed a little overdone after seeing my neighbor's scrubbed face and messy ponytail.

Just to put the music down a little.

I went over and did just that.

No reason to rile anyone up.

The rest of the party went smoothly. I had to kick the stragglers out when it was almost four in the morning.

Sighing when the house was empty again, I ignored the mess and climbed up the stairs to my room.

I'd pay the cleaning service extra, like always.

Sitting down at my desk, I turned on my computer.

I wasn't even a little drunk, having nursed my
