About this ebook
In an act of heroism and self-sacrifice, Anderson Rawn's sister saved him from the destruction of their tiny mining colony, but her actions condemned the thirteen-year-old to ten years of crushing loneliness on the hyperspace journey to a new home. Using electronics and desperation, Anderson creates a family to keep him company, but family isn't always a blessing.
When Anderson finally arrives, C.J. Poulson greets him with curiosity and awe, because anyone who can survive a holocaust and reinvent holo-science is going to be a legend and right up C.J.'s alley. But the more C.J. investigates how Anderson endured the last ten years, the deeper he is drawn into a truly dangerous fantasy, one that offers the key to Anderson's salvation—and his destruction.
In spite of his best intentions, C.J. can’t resist the terribly seductive Anderson. Their attraction threatens to destroy them, because the heart of a man who can survive the destruction of his people and retain his sense of self holds a solid core of alpha male that will not be denied.
Amy Lane
Award winning author Amy Lane lives in a crumbling crapmansion with a couple of teenagers, a passel of furbabies, and a bemused spouse. She has too damned much yarn, a penchant for action-adventure movies, and a need to know that somewhere in all the pain is a story of Wuv, Twu Wuv, which she continues to believe in to this day! She writes contemporary romance, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and romantic suspense, teaches the occasional writing class, and likes to pretend her very simple life is as exciting as the lives of the people who live in her head. She’ll also tell you that sacrifices, large and small, are worth the urge to write. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I wanted to like this one; I really did. The concept really intrigued me. If you live alone among a group of AI holograms, does that make your connections with them any less real than with people? Especially if it's all you know? That's exactly what happens for Anderson, and when he ends up finding civilization again, his world needs to be reconciled with that of "real" people.
The author tried to insert some psychological elements in here that just didn't quite hit the mark for me. Some of the hologram characters seemed wholly unnecessary. And Anderson's "recovery" seemed really rushed at some points.
[Content warning: abusive relationships, discussion of sexual assault] - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is my 17th book by Amy Lane, and I must say it is one of the best, if not THE best I've read to date. Be warned that the story is a deeply emotional one while addressing dark psychological issues that are bound to at least make you misty-eyed on reading it.With that said, I loved this story of a young man who lost his family and his entire planet in a cataclysmic event and spent the next ten plus years in a space shuttle alone. The story is about how he survived it without going insane and how he recovered and in the end found love.Highly recommended.
