    INTRODUCTION

    What is Reiki?

    Reiki is an energetic hands-on touch therapy which channels universal life energy, or Qi, through the hands of the practitioner and into the auric field and body of the client. Reiki combines traditional Japanese hands-on healing techniques with the meditative visions and teachings of Dr. Mikao Usui, born August 15th, 1865 in Gifu prefecture, Japan. The ability to channel this Reiki energy is passed from teacher to student through graded attunements. Each attunement works by opening the body’s chakras and energy fields to better allow the transmission and flow of these energies. Rei means universal spiritual wisdom and Ki means life force.

    There are three traditional levels of Reiki certifications (although some teachers have begun to split the final Master level into Reiki three and Reiki Master). These certifications are based on the attunements or openings the students receive. Reiki One is the first level, and enables one to practice basic hand-on healing techniques with clarity and intent. Level Two brings in distance healing applications, so that the practitioner transcends space and time to transmit healing energy
