About this ebook
This is no ordinary mermaid adventure! Felicity and Sophie wish to return home from their first underwater escapade, as told in: ‘Mermaid Secrets’. All that needs to happen is for their mermaid tails to be turned back to legs. Sounds simple, right? After all, all that’s required for the potion are a few shells. Well, it would be, but these are special shells, and can only be found deep in the ocean within the domain of the feared Giant Squid! It’s a job for merman, King Stephan, and his army, but impulsive Felicity can’t wait for them, and makes plans of her own. Only, she doesn’t just lead herself into danger!
When she fails to return, King Stephan fears the worst, and even Sophie and Felicity’s beloved Magic Book might not be able to help them this time!
But all is not as it seems, as with a ‘twist in the tale’ the past finally catches up with King Stephan. Long held secrets unravel to reveal a life-changing stack of lies, in this fast-paced and nerve-jingling underwater adventure!

My twin girls, Sophie and Felicity, told me this weekend that I’m still a teenager! Yay! They added that it’s not just because I scrape in at a petite five foot tall, still love to ride ponies and roller skate (well, my husband does have a roller skating club!) But that I also write great stories filled with magic, fairies, mermaids and Unipegs (horses; half Unicorn, half Pegasus ) all on their request! They didn’t mention whether my looks are those of a teenager, other than my height - and I wasn’t brave enough to ask! My plan was for just the one book, but I happily went on to write book two then three and now there is a fourth. Okay, I admit it, I’m addicted to writing! It’s absorbing, mind-stretching and exhilarating - especially when I see my children become so excited as I read to them. Unless, of course, I’m trying to get them to sleep, that is. So be warned; they’ve (happily) been described as ‘page turners’ by my readers - and that includes the parents who enjoyed them too. In fact, I'm really excited to be able to share with you that a recent Bloomsbury critique of my first two books, has described them as: "Plot-driven, imaginative stories, that I can see having real appeal for younger readers." And as having, "vivid characterisation and an inventive world." Very encouraging feedback from such a well respected, mainstream publisher! I also enjoy my time out on school visits, 'book-ish' fun days at bookshops and working as an Ambassador for The Publisher's Association, helping to promote reading - of which I'm passionate about! I hope you enjoy reading and sharing my stories with your children for years to come, as much as I have enjoyed creating and sharing them with mine :) Right, on with book 5!

Destiny Calling!
After four long days, Sophie and Felicity had managed to create two hundred new homes for the merpeople; transformed from sketches they penned in their Magic Book. It still fascinated them to watch as each picture peeled itself from the page, popped into a perfect miniature 3D dwelling and then floated to a little spot where it would settle on the seabed to grow into a full sized property!
Soon there would be enough new homes for everyone again; replacing all those lost in the storm.
While they worked, the twins relived their adventures; recounting how lucky they were that the merpeople had been able to transform them into mermaids, saving them from drowning.
I know it’s not their fault that all shells they had, and need for the potion to turn our fins back into legs, have all been destroyed, but I don’t see why King Stephan can’t spare a few mermen to go and find some.
Felicity moaned to her sister.
I think we need to try and make the most of our time here - especially as time is still frozen on land, so mum and dad won’t be worrying. We may not get another chance to come back,
Sophie said, injecting as much enthusiasm into her voice as possible, even though she was feeling homesick, too. Do you remember when you nearly hit your head on the ceiling while you were testing out your tail?
giggled Sophie, keen to change the subject.
Yes, I do!
Felicity said, laughing at herself. It felt really weird, breathing underwater for the first time; that’s taken some getting used to as well.
I’m glad we got a chance to see the castle and the beautiful gardens before they were all destroyed,
Sophie said, gazing wistfully at the sparse seascape around them. There had been breath-taking coral formations that created great arches, meadows of swaying sea grasses and a beautiful mermaid fountain statue that had taken pride of place in the centre of the formal gardens.
All of which had been battered beyond repair. Even the merpeople’s magnificent castle had succumbed to its unstoppable force!
Shall I go and find us some lunch, Felicity - I’m starved!
You’re always starved!
smiled Felicity. Sophie swam back towards the cellar under the castle’s rubble; they were using the cellar as a temporary base.
Felicity stopped drawing for a moment. Her hand ached, and so did her chest - from trying to keep a lid on her growing impatience.
I can’t wait around for someone else to come up with an idea to get the shells, not when I’ve got one of my own, she thought, feeling a little irritated by everyone’s apparent apathy. She knew her plan wouldn’t go down well for many good reasons – but, as far as she knew, no one else had offered up any suggestions at all. It’s time I took back control! she decided as she doubled her efforts to get the drawing job completed.
The town’s looking good again, isn’t it?
smiled the Prince as he followed the twins’ back to their own new house. I like that one,
he said, pointing at their neighbours’ property. The design for the roof is very original.
Thanks; although, between you and me, it wasn’t meant to look that pointy. A creature that looked a bit like a mudskipper ran across my fin and made me jump just as I was finishing off drawing the roof, and my pen slipped!
Sophie giggled, recalling the amusing-looking creature.
Maybe we should make you jump more often!
he teased, bumping her with his shoulder.
Here we are,
Felicity said, ushering Sophie and William into the cottage and firmly pushing its little wooden front door closed behind them. She paused, her palms pressed against the door’s solid, grainy surface; gathering her nerve before she shared her plans with the others.
Where are the games?
The Prince’s question drifted out to her as she swam down the short hallway into their cosy little kitchen. He was bending to check for them under their small, round dinner table.
For the briefest of moments, Felicity wished they were there just to play some board games. She took a deep breath before she spoke. I have a confession to make; there aren’t any games, and there won’t be any – not tonight at least.
Sophie and William looked confused, so Felicity rushed on: I’ve got a plan to get the shells we need for the potion, and I’d like you to come with me – tonight. I‘ll go on my own, though, if you don’t want to….
Her voice trailed off as her confidence waned.
I don’t think that’s a good idea,
Prince William said.
Well, no one else has a plan, and I want to go home.
Felicity raised her chin defiantly.
My father said he would get you home, you just have to be patient,
William replied firmly.
I’ve been patient!
Felicity snapped. I’ve helped rebuild your town as we were asked, but nothing has been mentioned about how to get us home again!
That familiar prickly sensation she always got just under the surface of her skin when she became angry, was not helping her mood.
You didn’t tell me you had any plans, what are they?
Sophie asked, trying to open up a discussion.
We’ll go under cover of darkness to get them. If it’s just the three of us, I’m sure the giant squid thingy won’t even notice us and we can be back before anyone knows we’ve gone.
That’s it?
William exclaimed. "Even if it was a good plan - which it’s not - I can’t
