About this ebook

Cal Martin loathes Christmas music, especially the clichéd carols pumped through the mall speakers on endless loop. Even worse is the holiday-themed hell of Santa's Village that looms right in front of the sports store he manages. It's yet another hurdle for Cal as he tries to survive the world of retail during the soul-sucking holiday season… until he catches a glimpse of one of Santa's elves and becomes infatuated with the cheery, gorgeous guy dressed in candy-cane tights.

Of course, just walking up to the guy and asking him out isn't easy, and a botched attempt at matchmaking ends up turning a simple courtship into a mess for the gossip page. What can Cal do to overcome his social ineptitude, correct erroneous assumptions, and maybe have a merry little Christmas of his own?

A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2013 Advent Calendar package "Heartwarming".

This is a charming and funny Christmas story, a romance waiting to bloom under the mistletoe (or in the mall, for that matter) slightly hindered by a misunderstanding. It pits one "Christmas Grinch" named Cal against a lover of Christmas named Alex, and may the least confused man win. Actually, they both end up winning (this IS a romance, after all), but the way there isn't easy.

Cal used to play baseball but blew his knee and now manages a sports store. He sort of likes retail, except at Christmas time when the mall turns into a zoo. He hates Santa Village with a passion, except this year, one of the elves there hold his attention - and then some. Cal isn't quite sure what to do, how to handle himself, but the always-cheery elf is irresistible. I had to laugh as Cal stumbled through a courtship hampered by his own social awkwardness and the misunderstanding mentioned above. But he bravely soldiers on, and I admired that about him.

A story full of Christmas cheer, flaring emotions, and huge disappointments, this is just the right story if you're looking for some humor mixed in with your romance. Nothing too terrible happens, there is very little drama, but if you're like me, you'll be on the edge of your seat trying to nudge the two main characters closer.

A romantic Christmas comedy of errors. The big misunderstanding would have been more acceptable if I had seen an explanation of how a popular former baseball player (who is also more than hot, we are told) is so clumsy and awkward.
Cute story though. And it gets a bonus for Cal's brother.
