About this ebook

Stephen Haggerty used to work for the British SAS. He was trained to go into the houses of important men in the Middle East and kill the guards and then the occupants. One day the British government threw Haggerty on the scrap heap and he was reduced to driving trucks for $5 an hour. Three years ago Stephen Haggerty was introduced to an American from Philadelphia and now he has a completely different kind of job for a very secretive organization based in Pennsylvania.

Earlier today Stephen Haggerty flew into Miami Airport. Before he flies out again seven people will be dead. The first person who will die is not even Haggerty’s real target but he has something the British assassin needs. Once Haggerty has that item then all hell is going to break loose.

    Assassination in Miami

Stephen Haggerty walked into the office building on the south side of Miami. It was late on a Friday evening and there were few people about. This was a Cuban office building and like many other parts of Miami, Spanish was the first language in this building and English was the second language, or if there were Haitians around then it was third after French. A notice in Spanish warned Haggerty that he needed to sign in with the security guard on the front desk. Haggerty had already cased the building; he knew that the guard was not armed.

Good evening Senor, the security guard said in Spanish.

Good evening, Haggerty replied. Where do I sign?

Date and time in the space indicated, the guard said. Who are you here to see? The guard’s question was routine, Enrico Gonzales was the only one left in the building.

I’m here to see Senor Gonzales, Haggerty said.

Security was fairly low level in this building; there wasn’t even a name badge to wear. All that was required was that visitors sign in. Their security was bad but then again they weren’t used to visitors like Stephen Haggerty. Haggerty was just getting ready to shoot the guard when the phone rang. He relaxed and let the guard pick up the phone. He listened while the guard spoke.

He’s still here Senora Gonzales. I’ll put you through.

Haggerty waited while the call went through. I’ll need to see what’s in the briefcase, the guard said.

That’s fine, Haggerty said. He lifted the briefcase up onto the counter and opened it. The guard reached into the briefcase to open it up fully and Haggerty pulled his gun out of his jacket and shot the guard once between the eyes. The guard fell backwards and hit his head on the floor. Haggerty moved swiftly behind the counter. A quick examination of the console showed him where the automatic lock was for the building. He engaged the locks but did not activate the burglar alarm. A few seconds later he was in the elevator to the fourth floor. He walked out of the elevator, looked to his right and headed towards the door marked Landeros Inc..

Enrico Gonzales looked up as Stephen Haggerty walked into his office. Gonzales was in his thirties, with dark hair and a light beard which comprised a mustache with a thin cut beard around his mouth leading to another line of beard on his chin. Haggerty had never seen a beard quite like it but he had to admit it looked good on Enrico Gonzales. The thirty-five year old Cuban was good looking. In his file it said that he could be quite charming.

The charm was missing now. Who the hell are you? he said. His finger went under the table and pushed a button. If the security guard wasn’t lying dead on the floor then no doubt he’d be running to the elevator as fast as he could.

Haggerty tossed a pair of plastic handcuffs onto the Cuban’s desk. Give me your car keys and then put these on. If you do that you get to live, he said.

It was always interesting to see the reaction at this point. Gonzales had no problem pulling his car keys out but he had serious doubts about putting the handcuffs on. He was wondering what the intruder would do to him. He needn’t have worried about that. The handcuffs were a distraction; the car keys were all Haggerty needed. He shot the Cuban four times in the chest. Gonzales died quickly.

That was the easy part over. The hard part was the real target and that was Senora Gonzales. The only way Haggerty could get into the house and past security was in Enrico Gonzales’ car. He put the car keys in his pocket and walked back to the elevator. In the lobby he punched in the code to engage the burglar alarm and then exited the building while the timer ran down. He was wearing the guard’s jacket and cap as he walked out and he kept his head down. There were three cars in the parking lot. One belonged to the security guard, one belonged to Enrico Gonzales and the third car was the one Haggerty had arrived in. As he exited the parking lot in Gonzales’ Audi, Haggerty sent a pre-arranged text message. Five minutes later a gray sedan pulled into the parking lot. There were two
