Oliver...the Oil Pump - B E Holland
Chapter One
Oliver the Oil-pump was born when Fred the Fitter plugged him into the electricity for his first time. Oliver was sure of the time when he heard the midday hooter shouting, Midday, time to have lunch! It is midday – lunchtime!
The hooter shouted again so everybody heard. Fred turned him off and took his lunch to the lunchroom.

Oliver felt good being able to move and he sang as he completed his factory trials.
Before long, the big controller came by – he listened carefully to Oliver’s whirr and song, then pasted a big 'OK' on Oliver’s side, and switched him off. A small trolley took Oliver to the delivery yard. It tickled as Oliver was sprayed with a special tropical coating. The steel straps they put around him felt firm, and he settled down to wait.
Oliver had been made especially for Indonesia. Now that he had been checked, he
