    “What was the inspiration behind the creation of this book?”

    Robert Massie noticed the Romanovs when he was researching for his son’s disease. Robert Massie, Jr. has just been diagnosed with hemophilia when he was a child and Robert and his then wife Suzanne wanted to find out how other families cope with having someone in the family ill with the genetic disease. The most famous hemophiliac child was last Tsar of Russia’s only son and would-have-been heir to the throne, Tsarevich Alexei. He got the disease from his mother’s line, German-born Alexandra, granddaughter of England’s Queen Victoria. As he read more and more about Tsarevich Alexei Romanov and his unfortunate bouts with hemophilia, the more than he find out and got fascinated, with the Romanovs. In his reading of personal accounts by people who had been close to the family, he found out that the Romanovs were in fact a loving, close-knit family.

      A personal note from the editor…

      What if…? was the question that gave birth to Behind the Story Books.

      When I pick up a book, from the first letter to the last, I am often completely enveloped in the novel - I’m laughing, rejoicing, fighting, and crying, side by side next to the characters. Even long after the book is finished, I found myself reminiscing about the scenes and characters over and over again in my head like a broken tape recorder – I was left high and very dry.

      One particularly pleasant evening, after closing the last page to a wonderful story, I just HAD to find out everything about the book - how it was created, how it was developed, who the author was, - everything.

      This sudden spurt of passion has led me to create and develop Behind the Story Books, to share with you - my fellow book lovers – a fan’s love for books.
